Is it possible for someone in China to send money by paypal?

I have a paypal account. I am getting ready to move back to America and have some things a friend is trying to sell for me. I don't want to pressure him to do it too quickly because I would get very little out of my items if I did that. Would he somehow be able to send money to my paypal account if he were to sell my items? This would be more addressed to the Chinese nationals on this board (if any are able to respond to this) since you know what you can and cannot do. I tried for quite a while to find information on this on their website and the help section was not user friendly. If anyone can help me with this, I would really appreciate it. I need to clear out of here as soon as I can and I have items which cost over 5000 RMB new (I know I won't get that out of them, but I'd like to get more than what someone would offer in very little time). Thanks for your help.

hello,
this may not help but you can send an email direct to paypal and ask them what you need to do, browsing on their webpage is not gonna help you as it is very limited but they do reply specific questions once you write to them.
as far as i know there is no way you can do such thing except if you have other american account (which i suggest that you used) to do the transfer.
i am not sure if you have a "merchant bank" account there, they have branch all over the world and that is your another bet as my husband do that before.
you can also check ICBC or HBC if they can do such thing.
another option that i can suggest is to just ask the buyer to send you a money order (internationally) as it is easy and it is available to most banks there.
OR
you just ask them to send it to you using western union as they have that there as well and you can just have it to any food lions here or some other grocery store. i assume you still live in cary.
anyway, i hope such stuff helps. i know you only have few days left there and it is better to check other options other than paypal.

i just read the top post here and as far as know you cannot use paypal.cn as they are not yet compatible.
i think your student can send a money order using unionpay and that would be your best option or the western union option (they have that there too)
paypal dont issue paypal card in china (i hope im a correct coz i tried to apply a year ago when we are in beijing and i was told that i can only open a paypal email account but cannot request a card as they cannot verify me there using chinese bank (please correct me if i am wrong)
my husband uses paypal for more than 10 years now and he should know that but he said not that he know of.

yes, not rushing will help you a lot to get more money coz they do like to bargain. it happens to us before and we almost sell it for free just to get something out of it.
anyway, money order or western union will be best as they are available world wide and all you have to do is be very careful giving your full name to your student (i know you already know it but sometimes we forgot)
well at least you have your family's support and they are willing to help you out in times like this.
i really wish things work out smooth somehow.

Thanks for the information. I was just thinking that if I didn't have to rush the guy, I could probably get more money for my items. I will ask him what options would work best for him. I won't be going back to NC (at least not right now). I may go for a short time so my brother there can help me find a good computer, but I might have to hold off on that until after I am working. My younger brother is going to find me an apartment in Phoenix when I get there so I don't have to worry about that. I just hope things work out for me soon. Talk to you later.

HI daeckardt.
Pardon me If I misunderstood the situation. But are you trying to ask how could 'anybody' deposit money into your paypal?
I have been using paypal for quite a long time. Here is my suggestion.I assume that sales are not online,since if they were,there wouldn't be any problem.
Your friend should have a paypal account himself. After he has sold your products,he can send money from his own paypal account to your paypal account. Paypal gives you options for "send money" and "request money".
Lets make it clearer. Suppose your friend gets 5000 RMB by selling your things. He will send 5000 RMB to your paypal account by his own paypal. Paypal will charge his credit card the same amount of money. Obviously he MUST have a credit card.

I take it that the "unionpay" card they give you on your bank account would not qualify for that, right? This guy is a student and I don't know if he has a credit card yet or not. I will check with him tomorrow. Thanks for the information.

Does he unionpay credit card ot debit card?
A unionpay debit card would not suffice. His credit card can be used with paypal. But remember there are certain currency issues in transferring funds between paypal.com and paypal.cn . I suggest that he should have an account with paypal.com and not with paypal.cn . Just to avoid inconvenience. :-)
If the problem persists,think about trying money transfer methods other than paypal. :-)

Why don't you try money sending service like Western Union? It is fast and cheap. You can get the money IMMEDIATELY at any Western Union branch after the person send it.

In the end, my friend decided to buy the items himself. I won't get much money out of it, but at least I won't have to worry about it. Thanks for the response.

anything is possible like saying good girls never give it up and well id say that contact them payapl people representitive or the (F.A.Q.) Frequenly asked questions so just give it a try explain them your situation and im sure them payapl ppl will cut some slak or just cuss them out
