A Post Dated Check?

Have you ever had to deal with a post dated check? A post dated check is a check that is dated for sometime in the future, whether it's a few days or even months in advance.
The only time I ever had to deal with a post dated check was when I worked at a collection agency many years ago. As a collection agent, we were allowed to request checks dated in advance for the purpose of allowing a debtor to pay off their debt over time. This was always done with the clear understanding that the checks would not get deposited until the due date as listed on the check. In that situation, a post dated check was completely legal as the debtor had every intention of the check being good at the time it was to be presented.
Until yesterday, it had been 14 years or so since I had to deal with a post dated check. When I checked my mail, I found an envelope with Payment Enclosed at the top and the return address showed only Payment Processing Center. I was thinking, "Cool! I got another payout! Wonder WHO it is." as I ripped open the envelope. Upon pulling out the check, I saw that I had received my $10.07 payout from SendMoreInfo. Because the check was issued from a payment processing center, there was alot of information printed on the check, so it took me a few minutes to realise the check was dated for April 30th. WHAT?!?
Since there was a phone number on the check, I decided to call and confirm that I would need to hold the check for a few more days. It was a pretty simple call. After explaining the reason for my call, the customer service rep looked up the check and confirmed that there were no holds or stop payments placed on the check, but she did ask me to wait until the 30th before I deposited. I thought it was kind of funny when she said that we had very good mail service since they delivered the check before it was due.
So, have you ever had to deal with a post dated check? How did you deal with it?

I have had to deal with post dated checks, also at a former employer. I worked for a buy here pay here car lot and sometimes if people were in the area they would drop off a check and ask us not to post it until pay day (Friday).
I am interested in learning more about this sendmoreinfo. Sounds familiar, however I don't know why, because it is not a program that I am active. Maybe you could send me a referral link .

I'm glad it was only dated a few days in advance, lol.
SendMoreInfo has been around for several years and this is my second payout from them. They send quite a few emails but the link values aren't very high so it takes time to reach the $10 minimum. If you're still interested, I'd be happy to send you a link after you accept my friendship request. There is also a link on my profile page. :)

I'm not sure but I think they also pay something if you take advantage of any of the offers in their emails... I'm not sure because I've taken advantage...

sometimes receiving a post dated check means - you have given the service(thank you so much!) so hold on to this piece of papper(the post dated check) till we have enough to pay you.Its a nice way to cheer you up after you've worked your head off at least you can expect to be paid even if its next month!

Hmmm... so SendMoreInfo sends out post-dated cheques, do they? I'll have to remember that should I ever reach the payout! (Actually, it should be sometime this year as my account is up to $9-something.)

I had to make another call to the processing center because I've never had this happen before. They said SMI sends them the money & says pay them on a certain date. The processing company prints the checks & allows 4 days for mailing time. This means they send them out 4 business days before the scheduled due date so you get them in time. Looks like it took only 2 days to get mine after they sent it so I don't have to wait for long at least.
Since you're getting close to your first payout, I want to point out that the processing time took longer than I thought it would, even though it takes much longer to actually earn it, lol. I tried to check my other discussion (A good month so far) as I had posted it right after I had reached the minimum at SMI (and all the others). Unfortunately, it looks like it's been deleted. I had hoped to see how many days MyLot had calculated since my post. Instead, here's the snapshot of the stats screen showing my payment as pending as of March 3rd. From what I remember, it couldn't have been more than a week or so later, the status changed to mailed, but no actual check until now. Looks like the processing company takes about a month or so to do their part of the processing after SMI does their part.

um..i really haven't had to deal with one of those in a while,
but the few i've received were from relatives or friends wanting to pay me for something, but hadn't got paid quite yet,it was usually for a day or two up (like a friday).
i guess it was more of a "good faith" type thing to show me
they intended to pay.so,i'd hold it til the date.
i don't think i'd be thrilled getting one from a company though..eek

At least it was only for a few days. I wasn't thrilled, but after a few calls to the processing company, I feel much better about the validity of the check. Looks like the processing company allows 4 business days for the mail to get delivered by the due date. It'll be good as of tomorrow, or as they suggested, after banking hours today. :)

Hi paidreader! We do receive post dated checks and the persons who pay it to us usually says that he/she needs more time so the check won't bounce. What?! I mean the product and services were given to them and they have the gall to pay my hubby post dated checks. It is really irritating but hubby is always kind and says just let it be for we will just have to wait for a few days only. I really hate it when people get so abusive in a very diplomatic and educated way! One time, I was about to deposit a postdated check which was due already finally, then I received a call asking me to wait for another week before I deposit it. I told my hubby's client that this is the last time I am giving in to his request after the one week delay, I will deposit it whether it is going to bounce or not. I don't want to be mean or cruel but I do need the money to put food on the table and pay all our bills. They hired my hubby for the designs, they have already used the designs...it is just right that they pay my hubby on time. Just my thoughts dear friend. Take care and have a nice day!

It's a shame that people abuse your husbands kind nature. They should wait til they have the funds needed to pay for the products/services they require. :(

Post dated cheques - it all depends on who is issuing the cheque. I know of people who really don't have the money but honestly want to pay you and so they give you a post dated cheque and make it a point of honour to make sure the money is there when they say it will be there.
However, I know a guy who used post dated cheques as a means of keeping creditors pacified. It's like he has this idea that he can pacify people with a post-dated cheque, then when the date approaches he comes up with another excuse to why he can't make payment on the date. This guy is what you call a type 3 businessman - he does not intend to cheat but somehow when he needs to do things like pay....one of his bills becomes overriding. Admitedly I still do things with this guy but on a strictly cash basis.

This is actually my second payout from them, so while I did have a few doubts, another phone call to the processing company has laid any misgivings to rest. The client (SMI) sends the money to the processing company with a specific payout date. The processing company prints the checks for that date & allows 4 business days for mailing time. In my case, it looks like it took only 2 days to get from Arizona to Texas.
The get paid community has been making several changes in the way they do payouts, but this one seems like it'll work. I received my payout before it was even due. :)
