Pop Songs in TV Ads

There seems to be a trend towards using pop songs in TV commercials these days. I have come to the conclusion that I will eventually hear every pop song that I ever liked used in a commercial sooner or later.
I have ambivlent feelings about this trend. How do you feel about the use of pop songs in ads? Is this a positive thing? Do they bring back pleasant memories or have you tired of them? I don't have cable TV so I am constantly bombarded with these ads. I feel that in some ways they are a corruption of the original intent of the music.

I love commercial jingles. It brings back good memories from old TV days. If that jingle becomes popular, so will the product be.

That would be OK, heavens, if they were truly jingles(which they are not). I like nostalgia as much as the next person, but Give Me A Break!

It doesn't bother me one way or another and sometimes I like to hear the jingles again as it does bring flashbacks.

I guess that's where I have a problem, winterose, because I remember when there were real jingles identified with certain products. These songs were never written to be used as jingles.

I like this new trend, except when they use this one song. "There She Goes" by Sixpence None the Richer. Anyway, I have hated this song from the first time I've heard it. In my normal comings and goings I wouldn't have had to deal with the song, but I just had to work for a Market Research Company whose focus was the radio music industry.
The survey that we called on the most was called a Music, this is where I call a respondent, let them listen to about 30 song clips, and they rate them. Whenever I got put on that type genre, that clip was in there something.
Me and a co-worker actually came up with a parody. "There she blows! There she blows again!!!" lmao.
Anyway, after eight months I ended up losing that job 
. I miss it, but I figure at least I didn't have to hear that song again. Wrong!!!
They've used it in several commercials since then, most recently in a SunChips commercial. I just can't get away from that song no matter what lmao!!!
