I would suggest a tegu if you want a big, active, and can become attached to their owner. Black and White Argentines are the way to go, or maybe red or blue tegus, but avoid Columbians as they are mean suckers. Also recommend not keeping with cats, because they get 4+' long and cat=dinner to a 4 foot lizard. Some tegu sites: Thetegu.com and agamainternational.com sells them at any age you want to buy them. We have a bearded dragon nearly a year old, you can pet them they like to be held and they will take food of your hand veg etc. ours looks in the mirror and starts waving his arms.
