Would you buy your daughter a bratz doll?

When I was a kid I could kind of see the problems with Barbie, but barbie had goals and jobs like being a doctor.
Now as an adult, I see these bratz dolls filling shelves. Yeah, they eat sushi (which I love), but they wear gobs of makeup, high heels, and revealing clothing. And not only that, they're called "Bratz" as if its cool to act up or whatever that name is supposed to mean.
Anyway, what is your stance on bratz? I would never buy these for my daughter, but some of you may find nothing wrong. I'm just curious as to what your thought on bratz dolls are.

Nope! Not at all, we have a ban on Bratz dolls and other toys in our home. Like you said, at least Barbie had jobs and dreams and goals. And her dress up clothes were (are) a lot more respectable. Have you seen the Bratz dress up collection? PLEASE people, I am not encouraging my girls to wear that crap!!
We even ask fmily and friends to not buy these for the girls for any reason. They have gotten a few coloring books and the petz but that's where I draw the line.

Agree with you 100%. I think our kids get a lot of stuff from the playthings they have as kids and I think that with bratz dolls, you're teaching your kids it's okay to wear these types of clothing and act certain ways by buying them these dolls.

Yup! I'm glad I'm not the only crazy mom:) At first it bugged my girls, cuz their friends all had them. But now when someone tries to pass one down to them, they say no thanks. And I've even heard them comment on girls clothing, saying they look the the Bratz, and they don't want to dress like that.

How is Barbie any different?
Barbie has some pretty revealing clothes as well as Bratz.
The only difference with the two is the way the face looks.
& my daughter plays with Bratz & she doesn't try to cake on makeup or dress like them... it's all about communication with your kids.
Besides, kids are way into playing with the Bratz & not into looking like them. Most kids can tell the difference between reality & make-believe.
Bratz doesn't have that many revealing clothes line, they actually have clothes that cover the body, but like I said before, they are no different then Barbie, just more fun for kids. KIds love the new look & bright colors.
As for Barbie having a job & dreams... I'm lost on that because I remember playing with Barbie as a kid & all I was into was playing with the doll & pretend play... that is how kids are today.
But, if you must know, Bratz also have dreams & goals if you would look into it & look past the makeup for a second, you will see they are no different.
Dolls are dolls.

Absolutely not. I don't think Barbie is a great role model, but I think she's a lot better than these Bratz dolls that promote the stereotype that you have to wear make up, high heels, revealing clothing and have to be stick thin to be anything. It's just another company, promoting another bad stereotype that our children will latch onto and create another generation of children that think you have to think, look and act a certain way to be anyone.

I really know that Barbies did affect my feelings about self image even though my parents taught differently. I'm lucky I saw Barbie in a positive light, though. I saw her goals and she made me want to do things. It really did affect me, it's surprising what your playthings can teach.

I would buy Bratz for my daughter & I do. I been buying her Bratz since 2001 when they arrived.
I see nothing wrong with Bratz & for those that do, I think they should also look at Barbie's flaws.
The makeup on Bratz I see nothing wrong with. Kids are attracted to bright colorful things, so the maker knew what he was doing. Kids love the Bratz & the way they look...
They also have different stages of Bratz.... some might have more of a grown up look in the clothing area, but not all. Some Bratz are fully clothed, but that is beside the point. It's pretend play & it should be fun & about dressing up crazy & wild.
Nothing wrong with it at all...
So, yes I will continue to buy Bratz....
My daughter isn't trying to be like them, she isn't trying to dress or wear make-up, I think kids are more involved with playing with them then being like them.

Ugh...I can't stand Bratz or anything associated with them. I won't buy any of it and have told people that I don't approve so they won't get them as gifts. I know no toy is 'perfect' but there are a lot better toys to waste money on.

Would you buy Barbie?
If so, whats the differance?
Barbie/Bratz - same to me...
Go & buy a Bratz doll & a Barbie doll... set them aside & look at them...
I have done this...
In some cases, Barbie also has revealing clothes & in others Bratz doesn't have revealing cloths.
Both sets of dolls have revealing & non-revealing cloths.
As for the makeup... well... my goodness... the makeup on the face is an eye catcher to kids, people need to get over that.

Its just a doll so I dont see the problem, its not as if she is watching the cartoon and learning about how they act. Is your daughter actually asking for Bratz stuff??
When I have children and they want a toy like this, I would allow them to have it as a doll doesnt hurt your child, you could disuss these as bad points. People dont need theat amount of makeup. You could make up her job roles, she could have a different goal or job everyday, encourage your daughter's imagination!!
I dont remember Barbie wanting to be a doctor!! I know I had various clothes for my Barbie doll but they were just casual clothes and not for any jobs!!
Just sharing my point of view x

Bratz doll well the name says it all its a doll nothing more nothing less a simple play thing for young children. I dont see the harm if you bring your children up well something like a doll will not influence them.
