Movies are really starting to hurt my eyes...

The release of Iron Man this Friday will officially kick off the summer blockbuster movie season, and it looks to be a wild ride. I have however noticed that movies over the last few years are just plain starting to hurt my eyes, with all the bouncing/flashing/ and ultra-quick cuts happening repeatedly.
I'm talking real, physical pain here. Last year's Bourne movie is a great example. Bouncy, bouncy (what with all the handycams) and one cut after another, forcing me to blink to moisten my occular lenses. During the course of that split-second that I had my eyes shut, he killed three people, stole a motorcycle and blew up 3 buildings, and I missed it....
Am I getting old? Is it just me? I wish hollywood would slow things down a bit, stop with all the flashes and handycams and learn how to make make seemless and non jerky cuts.
Don't get me wrong, I like explosions as much as the next person, more even (you should see my FBI dossier) but some film makers just seem to be taking it way too far.
What do you think?

This is the main reason why I've been resisting seeing Cloverfield, in particular. I was warned that you shouldn't eat before you see it, because of the likelihood of motion sickness because of the camera work.
I really haven't seen many movies in the theater lately, but I do like watching action movies in the theater. They are better on the big screen, but I think I also probably miss a lot for the same reason as you. :)

I agree, some movies are just meant to be seen on the big digital screen with THX sound. I am waiting on Cloverfield too and really am expecting it to be like the Blair Witch Project which I believe is the movie that started this handicam mess.

Well i think the movie makers are trying to make it look real with such cam movement. There are some movies that overdo it which can be quite annoying at times. For me i just hate the flashing parts, it feels like my eyes are being pierced. This days i usually get dvds and watch it on LCDtv, my eyes feel much better even on the flashy scenes.

I hear ya! Some movies give em a headache just trying to focus on them, or even worse, make me nauseous. I like action movies, too, but it seems that some of them take things a bit too far.
I haven't seen Iron Man yet but I hope to. Did you see it?
