Earring Down The Drain

The day my son was born, my husband gave me a pair of white gold diamond hoop earrings. My birthday is in April, as is my son's, so the diamonds were appropriate. I wear them all the time, and very rarely take them out. I shower in them, swim in them, cut grass in them, everything. They mean quite a bit to me. When they get stuck in my hair, I have to untangle them, they don't just "come out" of my ears. The little catches are very hard to open. So how did one come loose in the shower last night and wash down the drain? I have no idea. As soon as it hit the floor, I immediately shut the water off. My husband tried to fish it out of the drain with a coat hanger, but it was already gone. So I'm thinking of taking my engagement ring and the remaining earring and having them made into one ring. On the earring there are 7 tiny diamonds, and my engagement ring is a 1/4 carat diamond in white gold. I'm brokenhearted about losing one down the drain, but I can't wear the other alone, and I already don't wear my engagement ring. This way, I'd still be able to wear both. So what do you guys think? The hoop earring from the day my son was born, meshed with my engagement ring, both diamonds in white gold. What do you think it would cost? How do think it would look? Has this ever happened to anyone, and if so, what did you do?
