My son has ADHD. He's also been diagnosed with early onset of Bipolar symptoms. He is 9 years old. He's been on medication for 3 years now. The meds are working fine for him. I live in an apartment complex, so I have nosey neighbors ALL the time. Last night my son had a "meltdown" about something that I still have no idea what it was about. When he gets like that, he'll scream and throw whatever is within his reach... Needless to say, sometimes the best way to deal with him is to just "ride the storm out." My nosey neighbors however, have come to me and said that they are concerned about him. Apparently they don't think that I should just let him go... In their opinion, I should be punishing him for his behavior...... This, coming from parents who just let their kids ride bikes in the road, parking lot, and never watch them when thay are outside.. Nosey neighbors who think that their kids can do no wrong... What a joke!!!! The particular parent who said something to me has been charged 3 times by management here, for her son pulling the fire alarm just for fun.... She has also been visited by social services on a weekly basis since January.... So, who's the parent with the problem here?? I'm just so sick and tired of some parents of "my kids do no wrong syndrome" sticking their nose where it doesn't belong... My son only has about one "meltdown" every 6 months or so. I never know what's going to set him off.. So, after nosey neighbor came over, it was about 20 minutes later when the police showed up at my door.... I let them in, I have nothing to hide. After explaining the situation to them, showing them reports from the doctors, and all his medication bottles, they left....While they were here my son was still in his mood. So, the officers saw first hand what I was dealing with.. One of them told me "Maam, I give you a lot of credit, I would've bought stock in earplugs." They said they had gotten a report of an abused child....... So, after they left, I went to my nosey neighbor and simply stated to her that if she calls the police again to report child abuse, she may be quite surprised as to the outcome... So, are any other parents out there dealing with this??? Why do nosey people feel that they have to call the police when a child is crying?? Do these "perfect" parents have nothing better to do with their time???
