Gas Prices

United States

My husband mentioned to me that he heard a report on the radio from a gas analyst. This analyst claims that within the next 36 months gas will be at $10 a gallon here in the US. On one hand, I don't believe that's possible. On the other hand, the way the prices keep skyrocketing, I suppose it could be possible. What do you think? What will you do if that happens? My husband says he'll buy a motorcycle to drive to work. One of my friends said they'll tie a red wagon to a moped to do the grocery shopping :D

Haha! Well I think its very possible. Gasoline diminishes more and more and soon there will be less and less. I dont know if it will be within the next 36 months that gas prices will skyrocket that much but probably in 10 years time or so gasoline will be something like $10/gallon. If that happened to us then I would probably purchase a very compact car .. Maybe a Smart car. Or I would try and get some kind of hybrid car or a car that runs off of water or ethanol or something cool like that, haha. Though, it would probably be very expensive to purchase a car that runs off of something other than gasoline.

Well, while that is an extreme number, I think it's at least a possibility. I don't know how probable, but then things already not doing so hot, and the trend of the prices is insane...so...I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's unlikely. What would I do if that happens? Gosh, even if I manage to get a car by that point I probably won't be able to afford to drive...my family would be in a world of hurt...we may have to walk everywhere, which would mean we'd all get less sleep because of work...jobs would prolly suffer, so I may find myself unemployed, as a teen and knowing that obs for people as young as me aren't that plentiful anyway -- and I already need a job to help my family support ourselves! Maybe I'd save up and buy a horse, lol. God, I could only imagine how people'd be affected...imagine the cost of food and other energy THEN! My Goddess. That's one chaotic future that report person's envisioned for us.

Thanks for the comment. You are so right, and wise beyond your years! Hard to believe you're a teenager just by reading your posts. Keep up the great work!

Well if that happens we could go into a depression since people will not be driving and stores will go out of busnesses. I think that will be rediclous if the government will let that happen I think $4.00 is ridiclous and I think the government should try to think up ways to make the gas cheaper. I still would like it if all new cars had an hybrid engine so you dont need gas as much.

I may be wrong, but from what I understand, Hybrid cars really aren't much better as far as highway miles. City driving they are better, but not highway driving, and that's most of what we do. I could be wrong, or perhaps have it backwards, but that is what I heard.

I dont think anyone really knows for sure. Alot could happen in that amnt of time. For one we could get a new president who actually does something about it. So I cant speculate. I just fondly remember the days when gas was .89 cents a gallon and 10 bucks filled up my tank:)

Wow! If that's true we are in a world of trouble. My husband already has a motorcycle, but I'm thinking of getting a scooter to commute to work. I can't see the economy surviving those kind of prices. Either they find an alternate fuel solution or they are going to have to drill in the Gulf and Alaska.I don't know anyone who would be able to afford $10.00 a gallon. I sure hope that analyst is wrong!

I think i is highly possible, since the energy resouses can not revegetate, and they may go short one day. i thin cycling to work is not a bad idea.

I'm glad you posted this. I was watching Fox news and waiting for the analyst to come on but had to leave before I got to hear him. I have no idea what I will do if this happens. My husband is in traveling sales and has a very large territory. He doesn't get a gas allowance. Its scary. I can't cut down much more on my gas usage either.

This is exactly the conversation my husband and I had when he told me. If this were to happen without a fluctuation in our income, the entire economy will collapse. People, such as your husband, cannot afford for gas to be that price. Without travellers, we'd be in a heap of financial trouble. No tractor trailers to supply our stores, no delivery drivers. This would also cause the prices of everything else to sky rocket. Stamps would be a dollar just to pay the gas for the delivery trucks.

Well we've cut back as much as we can and it's not like we can afford to buy a vehicle that gets better gas mileage. We would be stuck. If this happens I can see people being in an uproar that's for sure. I think before it happens however the congress and senate would relent. They would start to allow drilling in Alaska and the Gulf along with other places here in the States. They should have already but if prices go up much higher I doubt they will be able to put it off for much longer. Already the gas prices are causing other things to go up and people to have to cut back. If they continue to that amount, which would be over the minimum wage, many would not be able to drive much at all.

$10 a gallon. We would need to quit our jobs and stay home all the time if gas got that high. We are alrady hurting from the cost and we cant handle much more. Mu Hubby has a long commute to work but it needs to be done if he wants a check. I wonder if you really could drag a wagon behind a moped or if it would just tip over.

Gas prices are really starting to scare me. We have a looong drive to make this summer. From New Jersey to Mississippi and back. Aside from that, my husband has meetings and requirements all over base. They (his commander) tried to push something that would reimburse him for some of the gas but it was shot down. So, he still has to use our personal car to support all these missions and we have to pay for the gas out of our pocket. Not good. If gas keeps going up he is going to have to figure something else out! We can't afford to fill up our car evey other day. It only has a 9 gallon tank and costs $30 to fill.

hello, i am not sure if that will happen but after reading that 8 years ago the gas prices are just cents and now they are almost 4 bucks then i feel it MIGHT with all the stuff going on the possibility is there for sure. my husband works at home (thank god) so we only uses the car mostly in weekends and only the time we have to do something important outside. our car is running almost 27 mpg so to us it is not bad for a small car but we are still hoping that some SUV's will do something about it coz we want to have a family and a small car is not gonna work. we are thinking of buying a motorcycle or just a small scooter to do small errands and save a lot of money then. we just pump a gas last night and surprise that for 6 gallons it cost us almost 22 dollars and that gas station is the cheapest in the area (about 10 cents lower than others) and boy that station is busy. anyway, i am really hoping that an independent company will stand and come up with an alternative fuel other than gas or the hybrids coz they still uses gas and electricity price is going high as well with gas price along the side. we can only hope though and try to lessen trips that is not important. takecare

I can't cut down much more than I am already. We go to town for our VA appointments and do our shopping and other errands at the same time. Very rarely do we make a trip that is not consolidated with other things. I suppose it is possible, but it doesn't sound probable. I pray it isn't ...

I was just thinking of something like that earlier today. My youngest son is really looking forward to getting his drivers license in 2 years and buying a car. That's all he thinks and talks about. I was just thinking, (but I didn't tell him!) that in 2 years, gas will probably cost so much, that he may get his license but not ever be able to drive! OR, the cars that he loves and is saving his money for, will no longer be useable because we will need to use something else for fuel that won't work in our old cars.

I also heard that on the radio the dj reading about it wasn't so sure it would happen but they way the prices is rising ya never know.I will hope something will be done for these gas prices. If they would I sure hope people's wages go up cause not many will be able to afford to drive. There is no reason for gas to be that high.

The Big Oil Companies have us by the short Hair. There will be no decrease in the price of gas until People cut back on driving. There is a world wide crises in gasoline. Asian people by the Millions are getting better jobs and buying cars with their new money. In North America many families have 3 cars. We have been spoiled by cheap gasoline for a hundred years. when I started to drive in 1953 gas was .34 cents a gal. This problem will be with us until a new and cheaper alternative fuel is found and augmented. We are going to see a Huge increase in motor bikes, especially in the cities.

If gas prices went to $10 per gallon, that would cause some pretty serious budget issues. I already spend over $60 / week for gas since I have a fairly long commute. I suppose I would look more seriously into hybrids to try to save money on fuel costs. While $4 per gallon is pretty expensive, I know there are people in other countries who spend nearly double that. The last time I checked, people in London were paying close to $8 per gallon. This is primarily due to the huge amount of taxes which their government adds to the price of gas.

It is disgusting, but then many of us won't be able to work so surely something will be done before they get that high?

I believe my fiance was telling me that her heard the same thing, just that by 2010 here in florida it could be at $10/gallon. I tell you we found this website, it is listed on my profile, about using water as gas too, and we are in the process of building the unit, so I will keep you all updated and let you know if it really works or not, they say it can double your gas mileage we will see.
