I think the Macbook Pro is still the best one around. It actually just depends on what you would use your computer for.
If you are into heavy photo and video editing, I believe you should go for the Macbook Pro. Compiling programs, same thing. If you are into meager work like writing with some multitasking, a white 13" Macbook would do.
If you are on the go, you could go for the Macbook Air, because it's really thin and light.
If you are on the go and in need of stretching your budget, you could go for the eeePC. Asus has released the eeePC 900, which has a bigger screen and better features.
For PC Laptops, the best ones around are Toshiba, Sony and Acer. Dell is also good, but I heard that there were issues with Dell. Toshiba is known for its longevity and durability. Sony has a great form factor and is also rather durable, but it has a steep price. Acer is affordable while being stylish and durable.
But if you want to be cruel to your machine but you don't want to spend a fortune on a Mac, Asus is a great brand. They are the OEM behind the Macbook, I heard.
The best way to go is to know what you want, research your options, and learn the pros and cons of every brand. :)

Well, there are already 1000GB or 1TB hard drives nowadays. :) Search for LaCie and Seagate, they have it. :)

I think your system is great. :)
I was told that the best hard drives are those with the Seagate brand. I also noticed that in secondhand stores, most brands there are either Seagate or Western Digital. Meaning these are the ones that can last long enough to be sold again. :)
Yeah, I had a Samsung CD Writer too. Seemed good. But I'm looking at using Asus from now on.
Have you heard of the AOC M19W531? It's a monitor that has a built-in TV tuner. Fancy that? A monitor you can use as a TV? I remember wishing for that one years ago. Now it's here!
