Buying new major appliances

For the first time ever, I have bought a major appliance, and am currently waiting for it to be delivered. It's not that I've never owned any major appliances before that were brand spanking new, it's just that this is the first time I've gotten one that wasn't a gift or a joint purchase. So I'm a bit excited.
My new washing machine was purchased from Sears. I can hardly wait to do more laundry in it! Am I insane or what? lol. I'm even more excited about how much energy savings it will bring into my home. The old beast of a washing machine that I am using now takes about 190 kilowatt hours per month, whereas my new washer is 311 kwH per YEAR. And with a family of four, 3 of which are boys (very dirty boys I might add lol), I do a LOT of laundry. So I'm just as anxious to see my new water and hydro bill as I am to do laundry. lol.
Have you ever bought any major appliances brand new? What did you buy? How long ago did you buy it? Do you need a new appliance now? Is there anywhere in particular you prefer to shop for one? I went to Sears for mine.. they had a good sale on. :)

Congrats on the new 'toy' CG!
Personally, I never shop Sears, but recently I bought all brand new applicances too (Package deal from HomeDepot). Stove, Fridge, Dishwasher, Washer Dryer and a big honkin' microwave. They were all stainless steel and fancy dancy.
They are all Maytag's which I swear by, and have used all my life.
All energy efficient too, and I mean energy efficient. Compared to the energy bills in my old house, I've cut my new ones down by more than half every month and I know it's because of the new appliances. So you go girl - have fun and when you emerge from time to time from the laundry room - do drop into the lot and give us an update! LOL

I do not think you sound crazy
It sounds like a good investment both for you and the envionment.
I have bought a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, a washing machine and a stove. The last one was the washing machine. I plan on buying some new appliances when we move to our farm. I really do not care where I buy it. I usually decide what brand and model I want and wait for someone to have a sale.

Sales are great! You're fortunate that you can take your time to do the research. Most people I know of who get new appliances have to buy last minute because the one they had went completely kaputz.

I can't even pay my monthly bills let alone pay for a new appliance. I need a new stove badly but I can't get one, no money and no credit. I hate living like this, I am not living I am just existing.

i subscribe to free cycle, and I don't have any means of getting the articles, I know some will deliver but I haven't seen a stove or a stove with delivery for example and that is what I need.

You live in a very expensive city; I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. Have you tried freecycle? Often people have perfectly good appliances that they want to get rid of... all you'd have to do is make arrangements to pick it up.

It's always exciting when you buy something new especially a major appliance. The last time we bought one was in Samoa and it was a washing machine as well. The fun only lasted a few weeks and then I got tired of doing the laundry lol.
Enjoy your new purchase.

I've never really minded doing the laundry, so the new machine is enhancing that experience. I don't mind doing dishes too much either. It's cooking I could handle not having to do. lol.

I can't imagine life without a washing machine... I would spend all of my days, everyday, doing laundry by hand if that was the case (I have 3 boys).

I bought a new dryer from Lowes about 2 years ago. Energy saver and all that crap...more settings then I am ever going to use etc. I got it for $235 in the scratch and dent section because there is a dent on the back corner. If I were to buy it new out of the box it would have cost me $512.
When my sweetie and I move into our new house this summer we are going to have 2 of everything, dishwashers, dryers, washers, refrigerators, stoves.... and it is going to be a real pain in the rear end deciding which ones we keep and which ones we sell.

I think a good rule at hand would be to keep the appliances that are the most energy efficient. That way you'll save in the long run. Then sell the extra appliances and do something really great for the two of you.... mini vacation for a weekend to the Bahamas or something?

The last new appliance I bought was a new refridgerator and that was about 4 years ago. I would love to have a new washer and dryer mine are 12 years and they don't seem to get the clothes as clean as they used to.

My washer was actually making the clothes more DIRTY! lol! There was an oil leak of some sort... and I've ruined quite a few favourite articles of clothing because of the oil spots.

Congratulations on your new washing machine... I live in an apartment and have an old refrigerator which is cooling well but which has lost a lot of its insulation...
In about three years I would want to have a new one to reduce my electricity costs...
I presently must spend my money on other things that are more important.
I purchased the refrigerator I have now used but it was close to being new.
I am glad that you will be getting that new washing machine soon. I hope it continues to bring you happieness and savings long after the box and the old washing machine is taken away.

My refrigerator is crappy... but it comes with the townhouse I'm renting, as does the stove. I can only imagine how my hydro bills would drop with those two items replaced. Wow!

Congratulations! I too wants to buy new appliances for our house but I could not afford it this time. We are using now old washing machine, AC, and TV, etc. Though its okay since all are still functioning well.
I hope I could get big earnings here so I could buy some new appliances, lol.

It would take a lot of hard work, but you could certainly make enough on mylot to buy a new appliance or two. :)
Most of all of my household appliances are at least 5 or 10 years old, and work very well. The washer has been on the fritz for a while now, and it was time to get a new one... I couldn't hold it off any longer.

I know all too well what you're going through. 2 washers ago, the spin cycle broke, so I would have to wring everything out by hand. My hands were so raw.
