A Great Nights Sleep?

I have a very physically demanding job that takes up a huge chunk of my time and, on top of that, have sepearsted from my wife and have to look after the kids when I am done work (until she finishes...all very friendly BTW). By the end of the night I am completely wiped and can never seem to catch up on my sleep. Once in a while though I'll completely crash and end up sleeping for 10-12 hours (happened last night). The strange thing is that I usually feel way more tired after that than I do when I only get 4-5 hours per night. Anyone else encounter that?

Hi inked4life,
Answering your question. Maybe its because you had too many night lack of sleep. When you had a long one 10-12 hours your body still feel so tired and it demand more sleep.
I encountered that when I had 4-5 days of lack of sleep. and when I got long sleep, I feel more tired after wake up and wanted to do more sleep. I try by drinking coffee and do a little workout to fresh my body and brain. I hope its help.

I do feel tired when I'm getting to much sleep. Its hard to believe, as you would think more sleep would be good for my body. I went to bed early last night and today am yawning all day.

Hi inked4life! Yes, I usually feel that way when I do get to sleep longer. I guess, maybe because my body got tired sleeping that is why when I wake up, I feel tired. haha...Just joking! I really don't know why. I have read that one cycle of sleep is 4 hours and 2 cycles is 8 and the body can feel recharged with just one cycle of sleep. When we sleep 10 hours, we have 2 cycles and one incomplete one. An incomplete cycle will make our body feel tired or sluggish. I still am trying to recall where i read it so I can send the link to you for a better explanation. I will if I will find it. haha..Just my thoughts. Take care and have a nice day!

Yeah I find that over sleeping is just as bad as under sleeping to me, both making me feel equally as tired. If I can get an average amount of 7/8 hours I am usually fine as long as I wake up on my own and not woken up by an alarm clock. Hopefully you start getting good night sleeps.

Me, too. I work on the graveyard shift for 3 years now. It's weird that I could get by and have more energy with less that 4 hours of sleep than when I've had 8 hours or more. This job is messing with my body clock. Big time!
BTW, love the tattoos. :P

I think it's all part of the routine that you get into. I sleep about two hours a night then have an hour nap during the day. I have extreme insomnia and have tried all the neds on the market for sleep and they either make me into a zombie the next day or I go into overdrive. My body has gotten used to this sleep schedule so I have no problem functioning. There are times, like right before my period, that I will sleep for hours and hours; that lasts about three days then I am back into my usual routine. If you aren't tired you can't force yourself to sleep; likewise, if you are exhausted its your body telling you that you need some serious down tine.

Yeah, too much sleep often makes me much groggier than when I don't get enough sleep. However, I suspect that when you completely crash out like that, it's your body's way of saying "hey, I need sleep!" Then it just wants more sleep than you gave it, so you still feel tired. :)

Dear friend,
I too have been seperated by my wife but my child is with her. I had slept for 26 hours continously once when I so tried after a long journey. But usually I sleep around 8 hours may be less or more it depends upon the tiredness. But mostly after a good sleep I feel more energised and fresh.

I don't have the same issues that you do in regards to your life. I am a stay at home mom with a husband that works 7-4 and then 2 hours at the gym a lot of nights. And he makes me and the baby go with him. Well, he doesn't make me, but he whines until I give in.
I have bad insomnia. On the rare nights that I fall asleep a little earlier and wake up at normal time; I find that I am a lot more tired when I wake up. I am also more tired throughout the day! I may only sleep 6 hours a day and they are completely different hours than "normal" people but when they are altered, my whole sleep schedule gets out of whack! If I take a nap...ugh. My husband thinks he is doing me a favor by telling me to take a nap, or trying to get me to go to sleep with him and the baby.
I try to get it through to him that I feel so much worse when I do that!

Always, I usually average 4-5 hours a night and if I get more I am always groggy the next day. It takes me a bit to get out of a fog. I think our bodies are used to certain types of sleep patterns.

Yeah I have also experienced that because eventhough I am still a student, I am already loaded with so my stress and I think it is due to the course that I've decided to take. I am currently taking up nursing right now and the next school year I will already be on my fourth year already and I am glad that I could really make it through. I am residing here in the Philippines and I am happy to say that you are great because you can still manage to take care of your kids. And you have still time to surf the net. By the way, I have experienced that before. I think it is because of your Circadian Rhythm that has changed drastically. I am just a beginner here in earning money online and I haven't earned a single peny yet at all but I am still hoping to be earning some extra cash for my allowance soon. More blessings to You.. Godspeed! and enjoy life.. ^_^

I never get the same amount of sleep each night. I'm lucky to go to bed around 10, if I'm lucky. I don't have a job outside the house that tires me out, just 2 kids, 2 dogs, a hamster, and my husband that keeps me going, it seems 24/7. When I do over sleep, I feel horrible in the morning, I'm lucky I don't wake up with a headache to boot.

Yeah Sometimes when I fall asleep around 7pm and sleep till about 8am which is about 11 hours I dont feel any more awake then I do when I get about 4 to 5 hours asleep. I dont know why that is but maybe to much sleep is bad for you maybe after 10 hours of sleep will make you feel worse then about 8 hours of sleep but thats just what I think and im compltley guessing on this.

Sleep does seem to work like that! It is thought that too much sleep is as bad for you as too little! Try to get 6 hours of sleep a night, and that should be good. After that many hours, we get into deeper sleep and dream sleep, I like to dream so I try to get eight or nine hours of sleep at night, but that is more for weekends cause I also have children to take care of! Good for you for having a friendly split! It is not the kids fault, so they should not feel the heat.
