What do you think about beating children?

Some people do it do the extreme but some for discipline what do you think? A mother slapped her child at school today and the headteacher had to write a report and send the social workers to investigate. Is this fair?

I think the headteacher should have slapped the mother back! I disagree with any form of corporal punishment for children...there are much more effective ways to punish a child than to beat them...

Well I do not agree with BEATING children but there is a difference between beating and spanking. If the chid was smacked on the bum then that is a spanking and legally you are allowed to spank your child with open hand and no more than 3 wacks. If you use a spoon or belt or anything other than your hand it is considered a weapon and abuse. Everyone has their own method of dicsipline and NO ONE unless they are abusing the kids should be judged for it. Parents do the best they can so why should someone that does not spend any time with the child have any say on how to dicsipline your child? I myself use both methods and both have been effective in the situation so should I be slapped with child abuse charges because my kids get one smack on the bum when they misbehave?
