So how many of you collect cans, crush them and turn them in? How much do you get where you are?

I collect cans avidly as there are many to be had in my area that are left laying around and usually the aluminum prices are decent and every bit of money helps me out as Im unable to work and cant receive any sort of benefits either so I have to do many things to generate an income.
I used to always get 60 to 75 cents a lb steadily with the occasional dip to 55 cent a lb.However since the current major economic recession, theyve fallen to a mere 30 cents a lb now.Thats of little surprise since silver dropped from 16 dollars an once to a mere 8 during the same time from though now its at least recovered to around 12 dollars an ounce for silver.

Where I live we get paid five cents a can for recycling aluminum cans. You used to be able to take them back to grocery stores, but it got to be such a sanitation problem, that now you have to take them to recycling centers. They have very large bags that supposedly holds $15 worth of cans. The center I take them to doesn't like to count them, so she estimates how many are there. Most times you don't get the full $15. If you don't want to count them, you just take what you get. Otherwise you need to count them ahead of time.

We do here at my house. We go through so many soda cans that it only seemed that we should do something to get paid back and to help out the environment. I am not sure how much we get paid per pound. My husband turns them in and we have a ongoing account. I know that for roughly 3 trash bags full we got around $18. I think that is a pretty good amount. And eventually we will have some money saved up to buy something nice. Thanks

I really don't know the amount they are paying but i do it any ways to help out with the enviroment as much as possible. collecting cans I do with only the ones i use. I don't go around searching for them and i have a recycle bin that i made for them so i can carry them in. We crush them and fill up the bin and when its full we take and cash them in sometimes get around $40 to $50 or more depends on what they are going for at that time.

I don't crush them up but I collect them into a bin and leave them out every week to get picked up.
