Every time my hubby used to drink coffee he had to run to the bathroom because he would get diarrhea. My mom has stopped having diarrhea in the morning after quitting her cup of morning coffee, what is it that causes diarrhea in coffee? Any body experienced something similar?

Hi there Alessandry. I haven't experienced getting diarrhea after drinking a cup of coffee. It is because my body has a high tolerance to caffeine. Caffeine is known as a stimulant. It hasten the peristaltic movement of our intestines. So, that can be the reason why your hubby is having diarrhea whenever he drinks a cup of coffee. Another possible reason for that is, he may be drinking coffee with creamer. Creamer acts as laxative. Actually, I take a spoon of creamer whenever I have constipation.Hehe... I hope that answers your question. :0)

Hey, I drink coffee NON STOP and have done for years, I've only just recently switched to coffee whitener to save shedloads of cash, which it does, but now I'm getting diarrhoa so it MUST be the creamer doing it. It pees me off coz its so cheap and I am very poor right now. All I can think of is to put 1 spoonful in my drink instead of two, I will save even more cash and maybe the squits too! I'm not getting it REALLY bad, just a small amount every time I eat. I'll try and cut down on the marg on my bread too..!

Really well it is opposite to me because i will be relieve from my diarrhea if i drink coffee.
Sometimes if my diarrhea continuously making pain and i was busy running to the rest room, i make a black coffee which it immediately relieve and release from pain.

Hi, alessadry. I have the runs often when I drink coffee or cocoa. It is just something that I normally have. That is why I don't really like drinking coffee as much. I know that I will be one messed up sista if I drink coffee before going to work that morning. Imagine how my stomach would be feeling then.

am a caffeine dependent so am very particular with my body chemistry and coffee. i remember a time when i used to get diarrhea from coffee and that was with the 3-in-1 sachets. or maybe it was because i used to pair it with chocolates. maybe your hubby and mom are lactose intolerant and the level of cream in their coffee is what they cannot tolerate. maybe mere coffee and sugar for them would do.

I have had a similar experience but, I just can't let my 100% kona coffee go! I think it could be part of the cream, because I am slightly allergic to milk that is usually the outcome. Do you have anything similar in your family?

Yes I have experienced this before. Whenever I drink coffee, I would go to bathroom after awhile. Sometimes when I drink tea, I would have the same effect as well.

I think I was told a long time ago that some people like me have an intolerance again the caffiene that is in regular coffee. I try a little every now and then to see if it stops giving me diarrhea, but it hasn't. The say part is I love the stuff! I tell people that I love coffee, but it doesn't love me. I have tried decaf, ugh! I tried none or less cream, half and half, sugar, milk, to no avail. I guess that coffee is just not my cup of tea. (Smile)

i used to experience diarrhea but not that type of diarrhea that lasts during the whole day. just after drinking coffee. it turns out that my lactose intolerance is kicking up because of my coffee mix.

I'm pretty sure it's not the caffeine, at least not for me. I can drink sodas and take caffeine tablets with no diarrhea, but give me a cup of coffee and I'm off to the bathroom within 20 minutes with loose stools. Like someone mentioned, maybe it's the creamer. I never thought of that possibility before. I don't know if I'd like coffee without creamer though.

I have been drinking coffee for many years,,long ago coffee rarely ever gave me the poops. Now days one or two cups and I get the poops,,sometimes on and off all day, course Im drinking coffee on and off all day. Obviously its something in the coffee for sure, no coffee equals no poops. I considered another post I read saying maybe its pesticides, and Im starting to think maybe it is.
