In Bangalore there is a chinese shoe maker. If you order a pair of shoe, it would take 3 to 4 months for him to deliver the finished product. I was always wondering what is this - a business gimmick or hard work to maintain quality? Once I took an Englishman to this shoemaker who wanted to have chinese shoe. First he refused to take the order. After explaining that my freind has come all the way from UK, then agreed to make. He took measurement of leg on a sheet of paper, asked my friend to come after one week. Like this 6 to 7 visits were made for trying out shoe from various angles. In 1980, the cost of shoe paid by my friend was (it was paid in rupees, but I convert into dollars for the sake of convenience) $600. In those days, anybody would have purchased 50 pairs of ready made shoes for that amount. The point I am driving home is it is quality, quality and quality that matters and not the price. Secondly quality should also go with customer satisfaction by meeting all his requirements. So coming to your point (sorry for indulging in some story) 1. Create a brand name 2. Use high quality leather 3. Use high quality thread for stiching 4. Give more attention for users' comfort 5. Give a new look by adopting newer shapes and designs. 6. Ensure less maintenance cost for the user. 7. Give wide publicity, explaining the above qualities. 8. If you are from Agra, the sale through tourist traffic will bring millions. Small business, high turnover, more profits. You have to run without shoes, saying No time to wear shoes, I am busy.
