What do you do with your old computer when you buy a new one?

So what do you with it? Do you give your old computer away? Or do you salvage the parts which can still be used like the hard disk, RAM, optical drives & put it into your new one? Or you just don't mix them? Do you sell it part by part or just simply throw it away in the garbage dump? In our place, you can actually sell it off as scrap & the recycle people will buy it from you. They'll test it, maybe repair or salvage the usable parts to fix up another system. The refurbished computers business has quite a big market here as well but it's slowly diminishing as computers are getting cheaper nowadays. So what do you actually do with your old computer when you buy a new one?

I have had quite a few computers over the years, and so far I have always given the previous one away. There is always someone, either friends or relative, who can make good use of a computer, so it makes perfect sense to ensure that it goes to the right person.

Great!~I call these FULLY utilized computers!~ HahahaaI mean it's good to give away rather than a lot of people from where I come from have the tendancy to hoarde stuff. And with their selfish nature rather to let things rot than to give to someone that's in need, especially us Chinese people...

I actually try to take some parts that I could still use.. or those that friends might be able to use.. I haven't been able to get rid of the other stuff that I don't need actually. No time to go to that event wherein they'd actually buy it for a particular amount.

Well, I'm in the IT biz. Have me own company. I do repairs as well as selling new ones & accept trade in. If I don't clear the ones which I no longer have any use of, I think my place will become a scrap pile, hahah!~

Oh yes, salvaging the old parts is good & giving to friends so that they can use it's greatAnd I do sell off some old parts too on eBay.

We keep our old computers and use the ones that are old but still usable. We use the ones that are no longer functioning for spare parts.

well generally when i change my computer it is still iun a very good condition, so if some one is there who needs a 2nd hand pc then i give him or else i use it as an additional pc to download torrents. i can keep it on all the time and then it will not affect the performance of the new computer.

Savvy, mate!~Either giving it away in good condition - which is very generous for you, you'll be reaping whatever good you've been sowing; or "slaving" it - like you have a master HDD & a slave hdd, so now you have a "slave system" to do your downloads

i'm sorry ,i haven't any experience in it . for me ,maybe sell it , because my computer is a laptop . i don't think throw it away in the garbage dump is a good way . throw it away , so crazy !!! maybe when you have enough money you can do it . this just is my opinions .different people have different ways

Even if I have enough money I'll also not do that!~No good to waste. Anyway I know what to do with old laptops as well. I can take out the parts like the hard disk & RAM plus even dismantle the whole thing. Laptops parts are harder to find so it will fetch in more $$ if you find a buyer who's looking for those parts like specific model laptops speakers, LCD screen, LCD inverter, so on & so forth!~

That's great. At least you get some money back by doing that!~If you throw away, you get nothing at all. Smart move
