When Times Get Rough...

Like most ppl I pray when things get tough. I’ve always been told to put my problems in God’s hands and he will lead me through the problem. I have faith and I believe He will help me but I also believe that I have to do my part. I can’t sit back and wait for Him to pull me through I have to do what I can also. I have a little saying on my desk that puts it in perfect perspective “GOD GIVES EVERY BIRD IT’S FOOD BUT HE DOESN’T THROW IT INTO IT’S NEST”
I do what I can when things get tight…I work harder on MyLot, I look for sales and bargains when I’m shopping, I try to cut back on using utilities…whatever I can do and I pray. Somehow we manage through. It’s not easy but we do it.
I see some ppl that don’t do anything. They sit back and say “God Will Provide”. Why worry about it? Then they wonder why they have no home, food or utilities. They blame God saying that if he really cared he’d provide. I think they’re expecting too much.
Do you do your part or do you depend on God or anyone else to provide your way? What do you think of the saying? Do you think that ppl that don’t do their part are blaming the wrong person for their misfortune?

your absolutely right, people always blame others for their own laziness. My grandmother always said, the lord helps those that help themselves, and I have always believed that.

Yes God will help us but isn't there a saying about "god helps those who will help themselves" or something similar! I do think it is a combination and God has given us the ability and the free will to go out there and do what we can for ourselves so you have to do your best, right? xxx

Many birds die of starvation, as do many people. That fact makes your saying come off very strangely. I'm an atheist, but I'm glad that you agree with me that it is a bad idea to just pray and take no actual action. As the saying goes, two hands working can accomplish more than a thousand clasped in prayer.
However, the fact is that MANY living things, including humans, through no fault of their own, have neither the materials they need nor the means to obtain them. So keep that in mind--you may want to revise that saying to one that more accurately reflects reality.

Ignore the above comment, I sent it by accident. It's basically the same except with an extra part that I wrote with some misunderstanding of what you were saying, so just ignore that part. :P

Newsflash: "your part" is the only part.

I believe you're right. I don't believe money is just going to fall into our laps to help us through, but I do pray for opportunities. I pray for my husband to recieve a promotion at work. I pray to be able to make enough money on the internet.
Recently we recieved a shut off notice from our power company. We were expecting our tax rebates to show up, but it seemed like they were not coming. I prayed that my taxes would show up before the power was shut off. The tax check showed up the same day as the power was to be shut off, and I thanked God.
And yes, it truly irritates me to see people do nothing when they have already hit rock bottom. My own mother was one of those people. She went blind when I was seventeen, my siblings were eight and two. She was a single mother who had to provide for these three children.
There was a company that worked with the blind, they came to her job and fixed things up to her advantage, for free. She wasn't completely blind, they called it legally blind, she could not drive, but she could still see to an extent. The company gave her a new phone with larger buttons that she could see, they gave her a new computer that would enlarge anything she was looking at. She was able to work after all this. Her problem was that she now had to take a bus to work because she couldn't drive. She complained that she couldn't read the destination on the bus and others at the bus stop were not helpful telling her which bus was which. Because of this small issue, she quit her job and went onto welfare and disability. Eleven years later she is still in the same boat, living off the government with no job. Her youngest child is old enough to care for herself if my mother were not home, so she needs no child care, but she still will not venture out into the world to better herself and create a better future for her youngest child. I think that is very sad and pathetic!

I pray too. This reminds me of the verse that says "you have not because you ask not". Believe me, I ask for plenty, lol.
God has been very good to me. I have so much to be thankful for. He has done some things in my life that I would not have thought possible. I know there is people that do not believe in God but I am certain of Him. Of course I do what I think God would want me to do too. I know He provides opportunities
for us to accomplish His plans. We are not suppose to sit idly all the time. There are times when there is nothing I can do except pray to Him. He has done some amazing things at those times too.

The thing is too...keep your eyes open. He will sometimes show you an opportunity to get out of trouble but if you're not paying attention you van miss it.

I am the complete opposite. Whenever I have a problem , I don't pray about it. I believe my luck or lack of it is already written and Nothing can change it.I give thanks for the idea of the weekend and I give thanks for the good things that have happen but I don't burden G-d with My problems.

My Dad had a saying and he quoted it quite often" God helps those who help themselves"..All i know is i have done a lot of praying many many times, and if i can help the situation i will do my best to put forth every effort to help..I do know that God does provide but at the same time,i think he wants you to be thrifty and at least try...God has blessed me in so many ways, and he has blessed me with a home and shelter but i was also trying to go where he led me..Sometimes you have to get up and move toward what God has for you...

When I was a young girl in church, we use to sing this song that said, "If you have tried everything and everything has failed, try Jesus." I know that for me, I will do my best to work out a problem. When I see that there is nothing that I can do in the natural, I hand it over to God to work it out in the supernatural.

Hi, there's a good saying about Gods giving,it' goes this way {God help me to do my part and to leave what I can't do to You. God provides period! some people just don't understand his ways ,remember His ways are not our ways.
I think what you are doing is great but understand that God is going to help who ever crys out to Him , seek and you shall find, knock and he will answer, some people thing that God hates them, it's not them it's the sin in their lives that he hates. Your right you just can't sit back and wait for him to move. Do your part what's in your power and leave the rest to him be patient and wait when you ask for something. And most important of all make sure you ask him into your life as Lord and Saviour.

I have conversations with God all the time. Throughout the day, I thank him for the love I have, for my family, for my home...and some days he has to listen to how mad I am about something...even mad at him. He gets it all.
I have always been on a budget; I try to buy things where they are cheaper; I don't spend money until my bills are paid for the month. Years ago, when my children were small, I would buy myself a new ink pen. That was my idea of splurging! I have friends who are worse situations that I ever was, but they insist on buying their children the most expensive toys and games, they buy themselves loads of clothes, they only buy their children famous label clothes...I think they are idiots. Most of them do it by living on credit, something I never did. And don't now!
Unfortunately for some, they are not able to do as I could, and these are the people that I want to help. I think that God expects us to help others. You can pray 24/7, but somebody's got to do the work in the end. God didn't promise that this life would be free of problems. I don't know why some people expect it to be.

I like this topic and I totally agree with you. We need to do our part in order to get what we want in life or what we wish for. God is always there to help us but He also told us to act or make actions as He is helping us.
When times get rough, when everything seems to be unfair, lets just pray and do our best to get away with it and live a better life. Let's trust that God will not give us problems we cannot bear, just as He wont just provide us with everything we want without doing our share to.
I think nobody is to be blame for whatever misfortune or problems we encountered in our lives. After all its God's way of making us strong and be ready for another storm that would come our way in the future.

Growing up we were taught that was called "potting feet to your prayers." I was never raised to be a person who sits and waits for the blessings and provision to fall on me. I think many of us have heard the saying "The Lord helps him who helps himself."

I'm with you on this one two. We are all God's children, and as children he wants us to grow up, and make our own decisions. When you pray for something to happen when times are rough, he doesn't just plop what you need into your lap. He shows you a way to get it. He leads you in a direction that will help your situation. God wants us to call on him when there is trouble, but that doesn't mean he is going to fix it all for you.

G♥d gave us gifts to use to earn a living, so I do my part and if the bills pile up, then I depend on Him to help me make wise decisions to straighten out the finances. G♥d doesn't just give you things on a platter, He helps you do what is needed, you have to do your part too..

Some people do blame others or God for their misfortumes, doesn't the Bible say that it will "rain on the just and the unjust".. These are not the exact words but the ones that I always remember when feeling sorry for myself.. I have worked hard all of my life and sometimes wonder, why things turned out the way they did.. Why are times so hard for some and so easy for others?? But I always try to get over it and keep going because I do know that my God has a Plan for me and a better Home for me and for anyone else willing to listen and accept Jesus.. I like to feel that I do all that I can and go as far as I can on my own, (which I know that I am not ever alone) and when I can't go anymore, then I rely on God as that is when he takes over.. That is where the one set of footprints come into play, just when I think that I can't go on anymore, then there is that one set of footprints.. God Bless each and everyone one.. Have a great day and weekend

Hi There.
"But I also believe that I have to do my part"
I agree with that. We need to do our part in everything so that we can succeed. We just don't let it in the hands above, we need to do something.
Thanks. Happy Mylotting!
