A little thought about discrimination....

Okay so I have a question to pose you guys. Recently, when I was watching a news segment there was a story on discrimination. Now, I do not, and never have, nor never will discriminate anyone. But during one of the interviews I heard the word "Reverse Discrimination." My toes curled on that one. It drives me nuts when people say this phrase because to me discrimination is discrimination. It is not based upon one ethinicity/gender. And I know the reason why most people say it and understand the significance behind it. But being an avid defender of words I have to say why is it still a phrase people use. And I even looked it up in the Webster's Dictionary and sure enough it is in there. So my question to you guys is: Isn't discrimination by race/gender just plain old discrimination? Or does it even matter?

You are right, discrimination is discrimination, no matter what. I think some people want to differentiate it because sometimes some ethnic/gender groups are discriminated against because they are the majority and not the minority, therefore they say it is reverse discrimination. All in all, no matter what your ethnic/gender group is, the discrimination is unfair and no one should be judged because of it.

Thanks, it's nice to others understand the meaning of words and not ones other people make up that eventually make in the dictionary. After all, we are one race, the human race.

If only people would realize we are all one race, the human race, there might not be any discrimination. Unfortunately, some people are closed minded and can't see beyond colour, ethnic groups or gender. Such a shame.

Discrimination to the point of hurting others and putting others above and neglecting some are purely hatred and does not concern race or gender. Our world is full of people who are looking for opportunities to degrade others just to promote their own personal interests.

yes I understand that last point. I think too many people encourage this ignorance by claiming they are victim to it. Or should I say look for reasons to be victims to it. I just treat everyone as I would like to be treated and ignore ignorance (which we should all do, because if you notice the word ignore is in ignorance.) I just noticed that. Thanks for your response.
