torrents can eat up an unusually large amount on my disk space, for example i downloaded GTA san andreas on www.thepiratebay.org. the file size is only 3.95 GB. i did a disk defrag before i start to download the game, it had 85% free disk space. so when i started downloading the game, i did a disk defrag again and now it was only 72% free space?! it should be at the most, 80% free disk space since the file is only almost 4 GB! how come it balloned and reduced my free disk space to 72%? so i deleted the unfinished download and its now back to 85% again. anyone here ever experienced this?how come it ate alot of disk space than it is supposed to? and now here's my original question, where do you download the files you want? (games, movies, mp3s,software, etc.) do you use a torrent site or you found a website that offers free, full downloads, and its not torrent-based? (oh i would love to know what site it is, if ever) or you just use limewire, frostewre, ares, etc?

oh i see, well when it comes to downloading games, download.com only offers game demos, and i wont even bother to download one, since i want the full, and of course, free version! hehe! limewire is great for downloading songs and i got some pretty informative pdf and doc files there as well.

about limewire i cant install it to my computer cause it runs on low OS system so i dont have limewire here. thats why i dont download much of all cool stuff on the net.i know mirc was offering like that too but the negative part of it some member put viruses files insted of original files that you want to download so it is messy to deal with it.

oh i used azureus before and utorrent, azureus uses alot of your memory, while utorrent does not, although they seem to store files way larger than the original file size, as i mentioned in my 1st post. well, i will try to download stuff from mininova, im now using utorrent. lets see what happens. thanks for your response.

This is probably not your case but there are times that I get files in RAR form that I have to unRAR, this doubles the size of one particular download.

oh i see, well mine is a really different story, i dont know if anyone else notices it coz im pretty much "observant" when it comes to stuff in general so i notice these things. i experienced that when i used azureus, and now when i used flashget and utorrent. what is that extra 8GB for? so i just deleted the GTA san andreas torrent. hmmm. if you are about to download a torrent, do a disk defrag 1st, then take note of how much free space there is left, and then make a defrag or check if it really took up the exact # of space that the file size indicates. i think i'll start to download e-books 1st? LOL see if it will hog more disk space than its supposed to. coz i only tried to download games from torrents, the rest i download from limewire. or direct links.

there is this site called www.giveawayoftheday.com this site gives you a software a day which on other days you will have to purchase but on any particular a software will be free. i use torrent. The torrent file takes up the space that it will take for the whole download. Dont worry the space wont increase. I use torrents and limewire. Also torrents are good. I dont why you dont wanna use torrents.
