reality(?) shows

It's obvious that PBB (Ch.2) is the most famous reality show in the Philippines today. It's making a lot of noise that advertisers are willing to pay their as*es off for their commercials to be aired (REPEATEDLY). Well, I got nothing against it (my mom loves it). However, there's something about the show that makes it look fake and planned... I cannot really tell.
I just wanna hear what other people think about "reality" shows in general. Do you think they are "oh-that's-so-real-can-relate-and-I'm-beginning-to-appreciate-myself-more" kind of programs, or just plain entertainment done by very good "actors" that they almost seem genuinely real? (not to mention the hefty profit they bring)

to be honest, i'm from the philippines and i don't watch that show. there are better things to watch than PBB (this is big brother, right?) i saw season one, with nene as the winner. after that i did not watch any other big brother show. i just think they look silly---doing crazy stuff for big brother then begging the public to vote them to stay longer in the house. it's the money and fame they want---that's it.
is it really reality that they portray? yes, it is the reality.(the begging, the money and the fame. yes, this is reality at its finest)
but this is just me. i admit that i don't watch this show, so it'll be ok if you disregard this response.

Hi! and welcome to myLot. I dont really think that PBB is really the most famous reality show here in the Philippines. Well, I think it might be once the most famous reality show but now I dont thikn so. Peopl knwo it yeah bt do epople really watch it this time? I ahve to be honest. I did watch the first season and I lvoed it, but after that it was all 'blah' to me. I got tired of it and the people int he house are really not that much entertaining than the first season's housemates are. My Mom loves it too but plainly because she is a Kapamilya. I have to say though that I am mroe of a Kapuso than a Kapamilya but I dont really care about the Kapamilya-Kapuso description. Im mor for the good show that they bring and I watch shows on both channels but lately, I dont watch any show in ABS just because they dont have that good a show as back then. With GMA, I only watch Dyesebel becuase I like Marian and Dingdong. All the otehr shows I watch are on cable channels.
With the 'oh-so-real-.....more' statement that you made. Quite honestly how can you relate to those people inside the house when they're inside and you're outside right? They ahve a controlled environment and you dont. When you say you relate to them so does this mean that you feel that you're life is controlled is that it. I think its mor of the hype of the show that reels people in than the show itself. Bt the way, when I say 'you' I dont really mean you, I mean the other people,im speaking about it in the second person.^_^ I jsut thought to clear that up and avoid misunderstandings.
Well, welcome to myLot again and keep on myLotting!^_^

Thanks for welcoming me! Yea, I think some reality shows are overrated and I don't really now why people continue to watch them. Anyways, I don't know anything about the spelling thingy, this is the first time I responded to your post. :)) Thanks again! :)

Just like what the first two responders have just said, I also watched Season 1 and that's all. In the long run, that so-called reality show have lost it's audience since there are lot's of irregularities happening in it.
But as for reality shows as a whole, most people already know that these are just meant to be called "reality" so they could put up a different approach and fool other innocent audiences. Every show, be it on Ch. 2 or Ch. 7, on foreign programs, there's always a script for their show to add more color and attract more audiences to get glued in watching their shows..

There is no such thing as a REALITY SHOW.
So you see the guys on a deserted island, struggling to "survive"...yeah right. Having worked on motion picture and television shows I can tell you that there is a six to twelve man/woman camera crew, lighting techs, focus pullers, clapper operators, 2 or more Assistant Directors, in addition to the Director, Continuity person, Script Supervision personnel,
Wardrobe personnel, Set Decorators, Riggers, Gaffers, Electricians, Safety Crew, a mobile Kitchen, a Mobile Hospital/Clinic, often Union Supervisors, a Med-evac helicopter, and additional assorted services. You are about as "Cast Away" as a supervised kindergartener in school.
It is all b.s., and everything is scripted, rehearsed, and
thoroughly supervised to ensure safety for the cast and crew.
It is all cr*p!

Yea. I heard the reporter said, "The next Survivor series will be SHOOT here in the Philippines. (blah, blah) They made cool shanties for the production staff to stay in." They showed the small houses near the shore and there are LOTS of them. Geesh. Thanks! :))

Im in the UK and hate Big Brother!! Me personally think this programe has gone on too long now!! I believe it is being aired in other countries such as Australia, Africa, Germany and probably more. Its amazing how they try one thing in one country and because it worked well in one place, they try it in various other countries to make more money!!
The first one was the best one as noone actually knew what would be happening or the response of the public. The other people knew what reactions teh publics would give and there for didnt act themselves!!

To be honest, I never really watch the PBB even the Season 1 though I know who the winner is since my aunt and sisters watched it before. I tried to watch once but it really bores me... I don't know.. I like reality shows but not like this kind of realisty show. I prefer the adventure reality show. Cheers!
