In our times, it is very comment to realize that everyone has the right to get education. But in the ancient slavery and federal times, it was not so easy to approach. The rich and the upper class had the right to be educated, but it was a total different story for the poor and the lower class. However, 2500 years ago, Confucius said, 'There should be education for everyone without distinction.' This was a great progressive thought at his time. It disregard the restriction of consanguinity, races, tribes, geographical positions. And with this conception, the federal China hold civil service examination system for nearly 2000 years. Every male could learn to take this examination to get a official position. As a result, many poor but intelligent men got a high position by their effort. Confucius is the first educationist of China. Some of his ideas was not only significant in his time but also meaningful today.

Education will bring benefit to a country. We are young and we get the progressive ideas. That's the result of the development of the whole society. As the whole race develops, bad conceptions will be abolished, isn't it? I think every country now are trying efforts to get education developed and popularized. But in this process, it has to face financial problems. And there are those who extract money from this. Well, it is the reality. Thank you for your response.

Yes,just like you wrote,Confucius' thought was progressive. But the federal governer did not run the examination corretly. They put focus on the officials election instead of education. In addition, They put focus on the art, writing and ignore the science. The products of such education are just some conservative schoolars without ability to help others, they can even not operate their affairs by themselves. I myst adimit that ancient China produced many significant poets, but many of the poets ate educated not for the examination.

i see what you mean. But we cannot ask too much from the ancient people. Society get developed from generation to generation. And I think in their time, to choose officials by examination was a just way. If not, what do you think they could do? This way saved from corruption and hereditary system. I believe it was the best way in the federal society. Thank you for your posting anyway.

thank you for your response. It's people that play the most important part in the social life. Educated people can contribute more. And that determines a country's future.

Yes, you are quite right. I also admire Confucius a lot. He is indeed the first educationist of China. His ideas, his thoughts are very fresh and meaningful in the era he lived. It is true that there should be education for everyone without distinction as he said. This thought is really great and far-reaching.
