Is anyone actually using Blu Ray at the present?

I bought a new Sony laptop last December and it came with a Blu Ray drive, but there does not seem to be any real benefit in this at present. When I registered my laptop with Sony they sent me a Blu Ray disc of Spidrman 3, which I must confess is excellent quality, but I still use recordable DVDs due to their convenience and ease of availability. Has anyone found a good use for Blu Ray yet?

Wow, you have one! I heard it's pretty expensive and I fancied one until I read this post. I think it's too much hype about little. Thanks for letting us know.

I could only dream of having one at the moment, Without the writing capability, I would hardly ever use it plus blue ray disc is way too expensive. HD movies is the only benefit that I could see there. For now a double layer DVD would makeup for it.

This was precisely my point, the technology has gained great acclaim but does not really offer any true value at the moment.

This my friend is the advantage having no money. For sure its use will be very appreciated when the writer and BD disc become affordable, I hope sooner.

Sweety, I'm afraid i have no idea what blu tooth or blu RAY dricve is. I asked someone a while ago but i didn't understand what he told me. (I don't think he actually knew what it was either...he certainly didn't explain it well). One day, when I'm a bit more grown up (lol) I'll ask someone again.

Bluetooth and Blu Ray are totally different things, but I can see how you would create the link if you are not aware what they are. Blu Ray is basically the latest development for disca. We started with CD which would hold 700 Mb of data and was ued to market music, then they developed DVD which holds several Gb of data and is use for films etcetera. Now there is Blu Ray, which will hold a massive volumeand is being used to market high definition films.

The only good use until now is what you also got : high definition movies. Since a Blu Ray DVD writer is not so common, everyone gets the Blu Ray reader with new hardware but no one i know for the moment opts for a Blu Ray writer.
