I'd love to write childrens books focused on my goats as characters. But Where would I start , what publishers would we look at, and it costs a fortune doesnt it? Is there any money to be made in writing like that. I don't mind writing, in fact, I like to say that Im quite good at it. Anyone got any publisher contacts?

Wow, I wish I could already read your book about goats. You can write your book and take it to the printers yourself and then when you have copies of your book you could take some round to local book shops and ask if they will put some on the shelfs for you. I read somewhere that someone had done this as she got fed up sending stuff off to publishers and waiting for them to read it, or saying it is rubbish. This is what happened to this person I was reading about so she decided to do it all herself. We also went round to playgroups, nurseries and car boot sales and sold her copies. she got the copyright and everything. I'm sure if you goggled it you may get some more information about how to go about it. Hope this helps and good luck

Well, first you need to write the book. I'd say read some recent children's books that are similar to get an idea of what kinds of books are being written. You should also find out how to get a manuscript ready for publishers. You can find that out online or in writing books. As far as costing a fortune, no, it shouldn't. You shouldn't have to pay anyone to publish your book and I wouldn't deal with anyone who asked me for money. The only cost should be the cost to have the story typed and printed, so if you have a computer and printer you won't need to pay anyone. As far as what publishers, there's a book called The Children's Writers and Illustrators Market. It's published every year and lists publishers of children's books and magazines. They tell you the companies, what types of stories they look for, whether they require agents or accept stories from authors directly, and other information. You can find that book in the writing section of any Barnes and Noble or order it online. As far as making money, odds are you won't make that much money. You never know, and you can't say what books are going to become big hits, but it's probably best not to focus on the money, especially with children's books. Write it because you really want to tell the story.
