Why do people join a site if they have no intention of participating?

I've been noticing this more and more on many of the different sites i've been a part of. There always seems to be a group whether large or small that joins a site, and then ends up never participating in any sort of discussions or anything really. They just join, do absolutely nothing & that's that.
What do you think is the reasoning behind someone joining a site & not doing anything at all with it?

I think it's sometimes because people join sites like this because they think that it will provide them with an easy way to make money, make friends, have fun etc. But once they have joined they realise that much more is involved than they originally anticipated; perhaps it takes up more of their time than they expected, or it's more difficult to do, or they thought that they'd earn more money. There could be any number of reasons like this.

Hi there!
I agree with you! Even me, I don't see the point of joining a site if you are not really going to participate. I only have 3 sites that I am active and have a membership right now. Those three are all forum sites. I do participate with the discussion though at times, I can't log in for weeks or so but I visit it and responds...
maybe because, others join that doesn't really find the site interesting. I experienced that too... If I am not interested in a certain site that I joined, I just cancel or remove my account then.
Thanks for the discussion!
Happy Mylotting and Happy Holidays! Cheers!

Many times, in order to see everything about the site, you have to join. Once you are in, you might find out it doesn't interest you, so you join and never come back.

A very good and interesting question. I guess some people are just following the crowd to register but they don't have the patience to explore the site. Or they simply forget about the site afterwards.

It is pretty frustrating when barely any of your referrals are active in the sites they join. There's one site where out of 70+ referrals I have only a couple have actually done anything on the site. On the other hand, there are some sites I've signed up for and not been very active on, too. Sometimes I'm not active because something about the site turns me off; more often, I intend to be active on the site (or at least check it out more) but just never get around to exploring it. It often takes me months before I realize the value of a site I've joined. That's why I never quite give up hope that some of my referrals might wake up and start using the sites they signed up for...unfortunately, this rarely ever seems to happen.

I think maybe because they heard or they were referred or they read this site somewhere and got intrigued on what's going on here only to find out that they don't like it they found it boring here. Sometimes, it really depends upon the interest.
I have referred 4 people here and none of them were active. One of the reasons is that they are not interested in participating and just joined to try it. I have referred one person who is active at first but as time goes by, he suddenly stopped because he didn't trust about paypal and so he's not sure where to get his earnings here.
