Here it goes: I want to buy some running shoes for running. But my mother doesn't agree, she said,"Why do you need running shoes? You aren't a runner." Yes,I'm not a runner. But I exercise at the club. And I use the stepping machine. So I need good running shoes. "Maybe you want to buy running-shoe-style shoes, but not real running shoes."That's what she said to me.She think real running shoes are much more expensive, and they're designed for serious runners. Running-shoe-style shoes look like just running shoes. They have the same shape, and they are much more cheaper. I really don't care about the money, they look cool,I want the best.Good shoes are very important for support, they support your feet. But my mother think it's just a waste of money, she thinks I'm stubborn about it. Am I?What do you think of it?Do people think you are stubborn?

It sounds as if you're just paying attention to what your body needs. I know from experience that when your feet are damaged from the wrong shoes, your whole body is miserable! Your mom is thinking of your finances, as a mom should. Just tell her how much you're saving on podiatry expenses by insuring that your feet are supported and healthy!

The right type of shoes are very important. I am very picky, but I also have to have good arch support. Even if I wear the wrong type of shoes just walking around, I will have terrible pain in my feet and ankles, so bad that I almost can't walk! Everyone hates to shoe shop with me. I usually have to try on so many types and styles to find some with the right support, by the time I do I am to the point of not worrying about the price anymore. I usually don't even care about what they look like either, I just hate white ones though. #:)

I don't think you are being stubborn at all. i think you should get what you want and need without someone telling you what to do on things like that. Just because some people do things and some don't, does not make one or the other person always right. Get what makes you happy.

Of course, you are not stubborn the way I understand the situation you are in. You just need the best for your exercise activity. I think the best way you can do is to earn the needed money to buy the shoes you want. Don't depend too much from your mother, but work your way to buy the shoes.

No I do not think you are being stubborn. Having good shoes is very important, especially if you are training in anyway. If you have the money and can afford the best shoes then that is what you should buy. Your feet (and entire body) will be thankful

Well there is always the option of getting good insoles for whatever pair of shoes you end up with. That would probably prived the support you need. Another idea would be to try refering to the shoes that you want as "sneakers" if your mother is hung up on the phrase "running shoes".

As a former (and hopefully future) runner, it really is important to have good shoes to support your feet because they support the weight of your body when walking, standing, or running. However, if you are working out on weight machines, stair steppers, etc., and not doing that much running, a cross-trainer might be a better choice. They are light enough for running, but sturdy enough for working out.

Hi gxnfly, You are defenitely stubborn.Your mother is absolutely right. You need a shoe - defenitely not for running. Then why can't you accept what your mother says. You should not waste money for a thing that does not require for you. So, you are stubborn - Please don't be stubborn, respect your mother's words and experience of spending money, after all it is for you only. Good Luck.

To be honest with you, knowing how quickly I get bored of something, if it was me I would buy a cheaper pair to start off with and then if I did it and enjoyed it and knew I was going to make something more of it, then I would invest in a more expensive pair. But at the end of the day it is not up to anyone else, only you!! I am very stubborn, if I want to do something or I do not want to do something then no one in the world will stop me or change my mind!!

I think that this is more complicated than it seems. Based on your other discussions, she is not to happy with you about some of your other decisions. This is just one more thing to argue with her about. I would ask myself a few questions before I decide to buy the shoes. 1. Is this the best time to do this based on the fact that she is not too happy with your other decisions right now? Could waiting a few weeks make this easier for both of you? 2. Who is paying for the shoes? If it is you then you can pretty much do what you want to do, but I would consider #1 above. If she is paying for the shoes, then I think you need to back off on this issue. If she is supporting you then whether it is her money or yours is besides the point. Work to start supporting yourself then think about the shoes.

I don't know whether it's the same with shoes everywhere, but there are shoes made specifically for running, others you get are for varieties of exercises, such as what you are doing in the gym. Each of these shoes have support in different areas, as the stress on your feet is different according to the exercise you are doing. Maybe your best bet would be to talk to the people in the shoe or sports shop and tell them what you do and they'll advise you on the best shoes.

I am stubborn! I would want the shoes that are best for my feet too! There may be a crosstraining shoe that you can buy, that would be good for other activities besides for running! Otherwise, I would buy the running shoes in the best fit I could find! It is very important to our feet. It does seem that your mother knows that, but wants you to make the best choice you can make!

Both u and your mom are not stubborn.. Both of u have got your own points.. As a amateur runner, u dun really need a good running shoe just yet as it expensive, and also, good running shoes are not really meant for training purposes.. Unless u are a regular runner of marathons, only than real running shoe will suit u.. For a start, normal running shoes will suit u just nice as they can heavier and can makes your training harder but yet effective.. As the real running shoes are much lighter.. U have a point too because u know wat's best for u and u know how to protect yourself from injuries.. BUt still, i do think that u dun really need a good real running shoes just yet..

I agree - good shoes are important. Your feet support your whole body & you should look after them - buy what you want & ones that will suit the exercise you do.

Stubborn? Nope your not! You just like to try it on. Well, it's really comfortable in running when you use a running shoes. That's why its called a running shoes! Not only athletes can wear it. Even a regular person like us if we want to. If you can afford it then go for it! I guess your mother just being concern in your expenses. Or she want to emphasize with you to use your money in more important things.
