I've been having sharper pains in my lower stomach. from my belly button, and down. It doesn't last a really long time (although it sure seems like it.)
But I think its braxton hicks. - This is my first time being pregnant so I have no idea what any thing is.
but at work, its pretty painful. sometimes it will just hit while I'm laying down. or even sitting here at the computer and I have to stand up/bend over and wait for it to go away. - I do deep breathing too and that seems to help a little.
Could it be something else?
My stomach tightens also. and the baby starts kicking while its hurting or right after (usually) so Im thinking maybe he feels it too.

I felt those sharp pains when i was pregnant... and close to delivering my baby... they were indeed only braxton hicks... but if you are having sharp pains that are close to each other... then i think it is time for you to consult your doctor... better safe than sorry...

If you don't mind me asking how far along are you? When I was pregnant around the 8th into the 9th month I would get those and yes they can be painful at times but never lasted that long couple minutes tops then would stop. I would just have to sit and half lay back and breath through them my stomach would tighten through every one. When you go into labor it will be continuose. I ended up getting the epidural for I couldn't take the pain anymore and I was only 7 centimeter's dialted and my midwife nurse told me I had to be 10 centimeter's to give birth. I do wish you the best of luck where it's your first and congradulations to you.

I'm 27 weeks now. next sunday (mothers day) I will be 28 weeks.
and yeah, thats what I do, when I get the pains I have to sit back and deep breath or stand. sometimes bending over helps too. and it is only for a minute or two at a time.

Braxton-Hicks aren't normally painful...uncomfortable at times but I wouldn't describe it as a sharp pain. My first thought was that you were uin early labor...but seeing how you're only 27-28 weeks I sure hope that's not it. It could possibly be ligaments and muscles stretching, that will cause sharp pains for some women.
I think this is something you definitely need to discuss with your doctor ASAP, The are a lot of possibilities that aren't a big deal but there are a few things that could be a major problem for you and your baby.

Everyone is different, but I used to have a feeling like that after I was about 7 months along. It would only last about 2 or 3 minutes, and it never really hurt or anything, it just felt strange. The best thing you can do is get the book What To Expect While Your Expecting. I practically wore my copy out looking up everything. They always have copies at second hand stores. #:)
