USB 2.0 is way too fast and overcomes the limitation of USB1.1. There are no physical difference between the two. To determine if USB2.0 is supported in your PC: go to your Device Manager, USB Controller, Check that one entry there has an "Enhanced" controller.

USB2 was developed as a faster connection and transfer protocol, which makes it possible to operate equipment that USB1.1 would not support. This is why there are USB2 hard drives and DVD writers available today.

USB 2.0 is the more recent one. I think you'll find all newer computers have 2 and only the old computers still around in peoples houses only have 1. USB 2.0 is considerably faster than 1. You may also find that a lot of newer devices do not operate at all or not properly with 1, as they are too powerful for the poor 1 port. Data transfer between something on a 1 will be noticeably slower for a large file than through a 2 port.

I think this will answer your question : Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 is a complete overhaul of the Universal Serial Bus protocol which allows much higher speeds than the older USB 1.1 standard did.The goal of the new serial bus is to broaden the range of external peripherals that can be used on a computer. A hard drive can easily hit the USB 1.1 bottleneck whereas it now becomes more 'usable' under USB 2.0 conditions.
