None in our family is a bruxist (a person who grinds his teeth during sleep). Bruxism is usually caused by stress or worries. This can lead to problems / pain in the temporomandibular joints (TMJ), too much occlusal wear or abrasion of teeth, teeth sensitivity, facial muscle pain, and lack of sleep of the person next to him in bed. ^_^
One thing you can do is to ask a dentist to fabricate a mouth guard for your husband to wear during sleep to protect his TMJ, teeth, and so you can sleep at night. And do something to pinpoint and remove the things that cause him so much stress.
Hope this helps.

My son grinds his teeth and always had. At night I can hear it from down the hall with my fan on if my door is open. I am sure this nasty habit will stick with him for life, as I remember he did it when he was a toddler as well.
It is more than annoying. It makes you cringe when you hear it. It has the same effect as nails on a chalkboard. I'm cringing just thinking about it.

No! Don't slap him! Give him a big kiss instead.
You obviously stress the poor man out which makes him gnash his teeth.
You see - we men have got to stick together! haha
We had a thing in the army with men snoring when out in the bush. The noise could alert terrorists to our position so we had to shut him up.
The method was for somebody to kiss him on the lips! He would then stay awake all night wondering who it was! haha

According to my dentist I grind mine. But I have never been told by my wife that I do. I think it is more a grinding when I'm awake, a nervous habit that I don't realize and it must not be very apparent because nobody but my Dentist has told me about that.

My husband doesn't but I do. He only has mentioned to me once that I do this. He never said whether it bothered him or not. But I got a piece to wear inside of my mouth that keeps me from grinding my teeth. My husband has never said that it irritates him but I wear this so that I make sure that it doesn't irritate him. Also wearing this keeps me from grinding my teeth which in turn keeps my teeth from having problems dental wise.

No my partner doesnt but I do, I always have I had a brace to wear at bedtime to stop me doing it but I hated how dry my mouth felt in the morning with it.
My youngest daughter used to do it while teething made me feel sick
