apply for the same job. Both me and my mother in law were laid off from our jobs. We are both looking for part time work. We live in a small town so there are not that many to choose from. I feel bad if I apply for the same job as she does and I will feel worse if I got a job that she applied for. She needs a job more than me (although I need one too). She found out about a job and applied for it, today it was in the paper. The hours and job is exactly what I am looking for. Should I apply?
Note: She has applied for several of the same jobs as me and it didn't bother me.

I see nothing wrong for applying. I think there's a difference between competition and going up against someone in a bad way. Competing for a job is something that you can't truly "compete" for other than present yourself and your abilities. The one more fit for the position will win, and that may not even be one of you two! Good luck!
