Can a non -US citizen open an US bank account???

I have this problem of encashing the US checks i am getting from a site which i am an affiliate.so this site charges me a flat 40$ for issuing and sending a check through Fedex.And this check if i have to encash takes as long as 30 days.. And this particular site offers free wire transfer to any US bank.
So opening a US bank account will be an ideal solution.but i stay in india.is it possible that i can open an online account or any thing which may help my pocket..

I believe that is is illegal for a non-US resident to open a US account. I know there is no way for you to do it without being in the US due to currency laws.
