My 2 year old has pink eye. He also has allergies. I think they are related. I did some reading last night when I finally admitted it was in fact pink eye. There are 3 different causes of pinkeye - viral, bacterial, and allergic. I gave him some antihistamine last night before bed, and this morning there was just a little goop in his eyes - better than yesterday. I gave him some more antihistamine this morning and his eyes are just a little watery, and there is just a little ball of goop floating in his eye every once in a while. His nose has started to clear up a bit too. The goop is white - not green or yellow - from what I read this means its not bacterial, so that leaves viral - which is contagious but has to clear up on its own, or allergic - which I am leaning towards. I have decided to just keep him home away from other kids and wait for a few days to see what happens. The rest of us are fine too - and I am very susceptible to pinkeye. What would you do? Has anyone ever had allergic pinkeye?

I had a huge run of pink eye in my house 2 winters ago. My twins who were in preschool kept bringing it home. Everytime they got better and I sent them back to school they'd bring it home again. They also managed to give it to my son who was five months old at the time. The doctor gave us drops for the older kids and gel for the baby. Oh my it was not fun to put gel in a baby's eye! We don't have allergies though, so it was all the bacterial strand of pink eye.

My son has had pink eye about 3 times now. I just take him to the doctor and get him eye drops. They are not allowed to go to school until they have been on the eye drops for 24 hours as pink eye can be extemely contagious.
