Just Venting About My Health Insurance

I gave birth to my daughter 8 weeks ago. When I got to the hospital my OB called for an xray for me because I was very sick and had a terrible cough. Come to find out I had pneumonia. We went ahead with the scheduled c-section because I just happened to start to go into labor that morning as anyway so even if we had decided to wait the chances that I would have been back in there that night were pretty good. So after I had my daughter my OB sent a doctor in to see me about the pneumonia. He saw me 3 times while I was in the hospital and all he did was listen to me breath with his little stethoscope and gave me antibiotics just for the time I was in the hospital. After I left the hospital my OB prescribed further antibiotics.
So I just got a letter in the mail from my insurance company regarding these charges. It isn't very clear, but it looks like it is saying that the charges have been denied because I did not have a referral from my primary care doctor to be seen by this other doctor. WHAT? Are they kidding? My OB is on my insurance and I was under HIS care while I was in the hospital so anything that he ordered should have been covered. At least that is how I feel it should work. Also, if I do have to pay out of pocket for this, it's going to cost me over $800 JUST because the doctor listened to me breath a few times and gave me 3 1/2 days worth of antibiotics. This is all so ridiculous to me. I'm just aggravated right now and it is too late to call anybody about it so I needed to vent. Anybody else had any issues like this before?

That's a bunch of hot dogs! (lol instead of bologna, trying a new fad :P) Seriously though... They just want new ways to not pay for certain things that happen... and 800 dollars to listen to your lungs? heck if i could get that I'd be doing it now and charging people.... hahaha... but that's crazy I do hope you get it sorted out. Hopefully things will work out, and I'm sure they can and will :)

oh yes i have heard others have had similar
things happen to them as happened to you. I will
probably get a bill for going to my er but my
insurance will pay all but fifty dollars of it
but the total bill will probably be about two
hundred dollars just for having the er doctor look'
at the rash on my tummy and back and write out
a prescription. my wait there was almost three
hours and I was one sick cookie too.
