My sister just called me and said that an 18 month old child named Koby died today. He was a toddler at her school and in my great-nephew's class. The story has been on the news, but I have not been able to find it on the internet.
Apparently, the little one swallowed a penny, but instead of the step father calling 911, he retrieved the penny some how. Then the baby had a suizure. The mother came home and called 911. The baby had gone too long without oxygen to the brain and was brain dead. They pulled the plug and the baby was pronunced dead at 11:00a.m. today. I just wanted a chance to read the story and see the little boy for myself.
My sister says he was so cute. She said that it is weird that she was holding him one day and he is gone the next day. She said she will be expecting him to be there, but he won't be. I know that as a teacher, she has never been through anything like this before, so it will take a while for her to adjust. I thank God that my great-nephew is only two years old and too young to be asking questions.
Parents, this is why we can't take our eyes off of them for just a minute. It takes no time at all for them to do something that could prove fatal. God bless his family.

it is only a loving parent that can honestly say that it's beyond words to express the sorrow of losing a child. . .
you're right we can't take our eyes off our kids, especially toddlers, but sometimes those bad things happen at exactly that 1 second that we blink.. bad things do happen sometimes oh so unexpectedly, no matter how we try to avoid it, they just happen and the worst part is sometimes the bitter truth is no matter what we do, we really can't do anything that's worth anything. ..

This is very true. But I see so many parents neglecting their children all the time and it makes me angry. I guess and a little envious also. I am 38 years old and want children more than anything in the world. I could never allow anything to harm my child. I would never take such a precious gift for granted.

Awww that is terrible.
I remember my neice swallowing a penny when she was around two and I managed to get it out by using a method I learnt in a first aid course. That was one of my most scariest moments in my life.

I can imagine that it was quite frightening. I am glad you knew how to help her though. If anything had happened to her, you would probably be an entirely different person.
I was over my sister's house around the time Jeremiah first started walking. When I saw him put things in his mouth or close to his mouth, I would take it away, say thank you and toss it. By the end of that day, his mom was doing the same thing.

That's so sad. D;
It probably won't be on the Internet until tomorrow morning. So you could always check then, or stay glued in front of the television.
