Is milk bad for health?

I am sure many of you would find my question strange .In fact I myself found it a strange revelation and would like to get other opinions on this topic. Recently I saw a chat show on television where there were discussions on the consumption of certain food items. One was milk. A scientist said that mother's milk [which can be given till the age of 3] was the best for any species. The human brain needs this protein till the age of 3 and after that it is unnecessary/in fact/ it is not good because lactose is hard on the stomach . This is what he said. Even for the calcium supplement he advocated greens over this milk. I found it terribly strange because we have always believed that cow's milk is extremely nourishing and is good for health. The doctor who spoke was terribly assured and convincing of what he spoke. Can you share what you know please?

It is true that we aren't really meant to drink milk after our infant and toddler years. However, some mothers do nurse their children until they are 4 or 5, so that practice could even be brought into question by this doctor's ideas. Most people think they need to drink milk because they need the calcium. When I was pregnant, I couldn't drink milk because it made me feel sick. People told me, "You need to drink milk for the baby!" My doctor assured me that I didn't need to drink milk for calcium because I could get it in other places in my diet. Off the top of my head, broccoli is high in calcium. You can even buy orange juice with extra calcium added. Personally, I try to avoid drinking a lot of milk because it has never made my tummy feel particularly great. I am not lactose intolerant, but milk just doesn't sit well with me. There are studies that have been done, however, that say that milk and yogurt help people to lose weight more easily and that milk helps support good oral health. As with most foods, I think that milk should be used in moderation. Too much of a good thing isn't usually a good thing.

nourishing up to 4 or 5 years is not really a great matter i think even though they nourish its of no great use.

of course it is bad when they add growth hormones and antibiotics. that is why i only buy organic milk. it is one of the few products that are organic that i can afford to put out a bit more money for and if not i just do not buy milk that week. we do not need that other crap in our bodies.

the dairy industry has lobbied this myth for a long long time..there is ways of getting calcium without milk...for some people milk is not good for them. i drink milk from time to time but it is mucus causing and has other problems as the milk is fortified and not all those chemicals are good for you. also the cows are being given steriods and other chemicals in their foods and if you are lactose intolerant..or an allergy ..this will make it worse...i drink milk but not on a daily bases..just when ever I crave a glass of milk..and then its almost water..lol..less then 2%..non fat or skim milk...don't need the fat...

Interesting topic. You know my simple answer is cow's milk is made for cows. These animals grow too be 800+ pounds you know. Im for a glass of milk here and there but there are alternatives (soy milk, goat milk, etc.). When I was younger I remember this movie where this guy was drinking cartons of milk to bulk up for football. I spent my entire summer drinking half gallons of milk like water. My end result: Bursitis. An excessive buildup of calcium on your bones or muscles. Had a lump in my back for weeks looking like hunchback Quasimodo. Thats my input on the subject.

Of course milk contains good things in it but milk is bad as it is one of the liquids which causes acidity becaseu of the lactose. Have you observer some people hate milk , it is becasue the our body does not need that much of milk.Milk is haditual rather than a requirement for human beings. Milk just provides and acts as a liquid food.It is very much required for kids but for us we would require more of greens and vitamins. There is no harm in taking milk but diluted milk should be ok for every one.

With all the hormones, steroids and antibiotics that milk cows are given, I would think that all these chemicals far outweigh the so-called benefits. Naturally milk cows are supposed to live around 12-15 years and in many cases even longer. The cows we get most of our milk from have a life span far shorter than normal. The hormones keep these cows constantly producing milk, usually up to 10x the normal amount of cow that naturally produces milk. As much as I hate paying the higher price, we don't drink milk, with the exception of in cereal and the milk we do use is organic. The amount of hormones that USDA allows companies to pump into our food is just wrong, but to keep up with demand, they allow it to happen, with little concern of the effects on the human body when we consume them. Steroids and antibiotics are also way out of control and the USDA continues to set standards that really aren't healthy.

I knew that milk is good for babies up to age of 2 since it contains all the nutrients that is needed for the baby's development. I dont think that milk is bad for the health since as we all know that milk is very nutritious not just for kids but also for all ages. What I know is a person who has ulcer is not advised to drink milk since milk produces acid that's not good for ulcer.

Actually milk from cows is techinically bad for you. humans should only drink well, human milk, (it wouldn't let me say real name for mature content) or the next closest thing to it which is goat milk. for all of you who think goat milk is disgusting, it actually isn't. it tastes better than cow milk in my opinion, and is much more creamy. well ihope this answers your question. Goatmilk should replace cowmilk because cowmilk is far from human. goat milk is healthier too, and has more calcium in it. bye

Hi kalav56! That is strange. However, there is truth in what he said about the lactose that it is hard on the stomach. However, there are milk that are lactose free. I have love drinking milk and although I am lactose intolerant, I still drink whole and sometimes fresh milk because i like the creamy taste of it. My doctor also advised me to drink milk so I can get my calcium from it because I have weak bones plus of course I do have some medicines for it. Just my thoughts dear friend. Take care and have a nice day!

Hi kalav, I drink milk and believe it is very good for me. I have heard it said that we should not drink a lot of it, but most people that I know drink it. I feel sure that not all doctors advice their patients not to drink milk. Blessings.
