why is youtube videos in flv format.???/

its kinda amusing that we are having many video formats like AVI,DAT,MP4 and all that .but the videos on youtube are only in flv format .... Is there any specific reason for this???

.flv is a flash format of video which takes less data space than other formats without affecting the quality. Also the player that most of the website use are flash so this is the only way to be embedded into the site. Hope this clears your doubt

Well it FLV format is a universal format . Alomst everyone have it in thier pc. So i guess a video websites will use FLV to reduce any hassels. And FLV as a reputation for being a well compressed format, meaning it can stream videos much faster with a good quality..
