Should women be allowed in sports?

There are probably other post on this subject, but I wanted to start a discussion anyway. My husband says no way will women be allowed to participate in sport organizations. I'm not talking about women's basketball league and such. I'm talking about the big leagues, NFL, MLB, NBA. Now don't get me wrong my hubby is a great guy but he says it's just not the place for a woman, to tough and so forth. Now i might agree with him about football, but i don't see any reason why a woman cant compete with the big guys. It just seems unfair to say we're equal in everything else but sports. Can women try out for those big leagues and can they refuse entry to a woman? Why shouldn't we be allowed to enter the national sport league? What do you think?

if the woman in question is capable of doing the job,i don't see why not.anybody male or female that can pass the training camp should be let in.

This, I agree with! Same thing with presidency, if the woman is qualified - let'em in! Although, in this case, the presidency may have been a bad analogy b/c I don't think the one currently running has the necessary qualifications...but the point remains.

Women can't be tough? Surely he has never heard of Laila Ali. Or considered how painful and difficult labor is when giving birth. Also, the women's leagues were started because the women were just as tough as the men but could not get taken seriously by the men. I can see it happening. For the NFL it will be at kicker probably. Please ask his opinion of the "toughness" of current NFL kickers. A couple years ago there was lady kicker for an Arizona college team. She kicked the winning field goal in post-season game. Too bad she was not drafted. Toughness is not strength, it is grit and determination. Women have that just as much as men. Which means they will eventually be in the bog leagues.

Ah don't be to hard on him, he's a sweetheart just a little single minded about some things. You know i never knew Arizona college had a female kicker! That's awesome! I hope someday soon we'll be in the big leagues, I just think they should be taken seriously as well.

Laila Ali boxes women, NOT men. Labor is not a competition. If the women in their "own league" were as tough as men, why did they start their own league? Why do you think "if it happens in the NFL" the woman will play kicker, the most stereotypically-known "wimpy" position? Congrats for the "lady kicker" out of Arizona. Good for her. But the pros are a completely different ball of wax where only the premiere players in the country are allowed to play - man or woman. Perhaps AnimeMom's husband is not a sexist, but believes in that principle. Furthermore, why does it have to be about toughness? I'm sure he doesn't believe that if a woman DID play in the NFL (or some other pro game) and got hurt she wouldn't be "tough" enough to overcome it...(this is me acknowledging your comment about childbirth-women ARE tough) Toughness should be left out of it, though. Strength, however, IS an issue - maybe THE issue!! You MUST be very strong to compete in these leagues! You show me a woman that can do 30 reps of 225lbs at the combine and athletic enough to help a team - and I'll call the Cowboys' scouting dept. Grit and determination still doesn't equate to pure strength, talent, or skill... Could the female kicker out of Arizona hit a 60-yrd field goal if the super bowl depended on it? It's not a sexist thing, it's a "we're different" thing!! -at least from my point of view.

Why not ? dont you think if you are given a chance you will make use of it? Well i think women are growing equally strong to men but still men are stronger . As its going to be all womens sport then i guess there wont be any issues about women are not tough. Well you being a women you should be supporting them and i suppose you will support. Hope to see women in all sports , i have already started watching them in Hockey, Cricket and Basketball .. hope they will get into all sports soon an on the bigger picture.
