Arguing with yourself about what to eat

Like many others I'm trying to lose weight. I don't have a mindless eating problem however. I know exactly what I'm putting in my mouth at all times. It's just that sometimes I have to talk myself into putting the right things in! Do you ever argue with yourself, or try to talk yourself into, eating the right things? I sure do. I KNOW what I need to be eating, but I want something else entirely. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, but it's always a difficult battle! I don't really know that there's a plan for people like me. It really is just discipline I guess. If anyone else does have this problem, good luck fighting!

it is not easy to get sick this days were everything is expensive. my mom is half body paralyzed now for almost a year. she didnt take care of herself for she has diabetes and high blood presure. we kept her in medication but we only found out that she wasnt drinking her meds and just throwing it all. she continue to eat foods that are not good for her. my mom became an eye opener for all of us.

Yes, if you don't keep on top of diabetes it can cause really bad problems. It's certainly not something to take lightly. I wish you all the best.

That's great that y'all eat healthy most of the time. I hope you can keep diabetes at bay. Both of my parents had diabetes, and one uncle, plus having an auto immune disease somehow put me at a higher risk. I can keep my A1C in a normal range if I do what I'm supposed to though, so I can keep it from getting worse. That is the goal at this point.

sunnflr I am right with you I know what I should eat and usually I do but not always. You are right, we have a constant battle as my doctor really wants me to lose weight and I reallydo want to lose weight. I know with me its just a matter of good discipline.

Same with me. I don't do the mindless eating thing, I know what I'm eating at all times. Just sometimes I don't care. I did manage to lose another pound this week though! YAY!

have you considred keeping something like a food diary to write down what you are eating? maybe knowing that you have to write it down would make you be a little more conscience about eating the correct things. i do eat the right things, but allow myself a small treat once in awhile such as one choclate or a salt water taffy. (one!)

I actually use www.sparkpeople.com for this. It has food diaries, fitness diaries, and lots of other helpful things on there. When I am in the mood to do good I do, it's just sometimes I really want something I'm not supposed to have like sweets. So, I'll have something and then check my blood sugar meter to see what it did to me. I have found some things that don't make it go very high, but my doctor says I'm still not supposed to have them..lol. He is very strict.

I have this problem. If I buy a chocolate bar, for example, I have to eat the whole thing at once, even if it is a big one. I am the same with biscuits and cake. I tend not to buy them very often and I sometimes wonder whether it is the fact that I restrict myself that makes the situation worse, but if I have the food in the house I just eat it.

Yes, I've heard before that it's better to eat a small amount of something you really want, than to withhold it and end up eating a big bunch of something bad. Maybe just buy a mini candy bar next time??

Yes I would say it requires alot of discipline and yes I have argued with myself in the past as in I wouldn't eat this or that I would cut down but in the end I would go eat it and sometimes over eat!!!. But every since I became a tupeprware brand star consultant, I managed to stopped the arguing cos we were train on how to conduct a detox high fiber diet program to our customers so I think before I go do any detoxing for others, I myself gotta be an example first. So nowadays I just eat less but will still reward myself sometimes.

Good for you, and I agree with your reasoning. I never understood doctors giving patients advice who smoke or are overweight themselves. If you are promoting something that is good for health, you should follow your own advice. Good job!

what i do sometimes if i crave for something is to eat a small amount of what i crave for, coz if not, i tend to eat more because i can't seem to be satisfied. It 's really hard to control your urges. So, why not give in to it and end the agony!

I know what you mean, and I do this sometimes. Like I said before though, I'm really not supposed to. I'm supposed to be really strict with my diet to keep my blood sugar level. I just wish there would come a point in time that I didn't want the "bad" stuff anymore!
