hot to connect a laptop to a pc by wireless connection?

Have you got a desk top computer, because the wireless has to run through the desk top computer to get laptops to work through it. We had 2 laptops, and we bought a wireless router, my hubby tried everything to get it to work but it just would not, well when I looked at the instruction booklet it said in there that you have to run it through a main computer.

If you have a manual, which you should, with your router, it should tell you step by step, that's the best way. With the instructions they sent you, don't they have toll free numbers? Just trying to help...I have a modem that came with a cd, so setting up my wireless is easy...
