Who here has a second job?

I'm seriously considering geting myself another job to supplement my income. You see I get paid monthly so it's really hard to budget. If I'm not careful I can be poor for a whole three weeks and only rich for one! As everyone knows the cost of living is rising and it's becoming a struggle just to live. I can't seem to get ahead, after all the bills are paid and the car is filled up with fuel (that in itself takes a huge chunk out of the wages) there's hardly anything left over to save. So has anyone else resorted to getting a second job? How many hours do you work in this job? Can you handle working two jobs? Is it worth it?

I know that it is hard to make it in today's age. My husband had to go back to truck driving to make ends meet. Anyway, I currently work for an angency and can pick how many hours I would like to work. Maybe angency work would work for you as well. I think that I will have to find a full time job and then work with the angency to make some extra money. Good luck to you.

I think you could do it. There are a lot of places that are really willing to work with people when they really need the job. I'm sure you could find weekend work, or even work in the evenings or mornings depending on when you worked. Places are willing to be flexible if they know you'll work.

Hi coffeshot! That is so true! Life is getting harder each day for me too right now. I am almost bankrupt. Tried applying and sending out resumes but I job opportunities for my age is really very, very slim. I am trying to just sell my crafts and hopefully somehow it will do well but then, people are very tight on their budget nowadays and that makes business so slow. I have to think fast before i starve. Just my thoughts dear friend. Take care and have a nice day!

I dont have what one might call a second job. But i do do computer repairs on the side from my home. It gives me about an extra hundred or so a month on average sometimes more. Otherwise i'm doing things like having a garage sale and recycling popcans and little things to get money back from things ive purchased but dont want to store anymore.

I don't know what you mean by a second job, but I do have full time job, besides playing with mylot.com I'm here just for the cheap thrill of seeing some pennies in my earnings, but I don't really think it's sufficient to earn a living for me... since I enjoy shopping and eating out. :-) I work about 10+ hours on this job I guess.

These days I would settle for a job, any job hun. In the past, though, I have held down three jobs at one time. I worked as a typist in an office, then worked in the pub as a bar maid in the evenings and I had a weekend job too, working in a local shop. It was really hard going just to earn a little bit of extra cash.

I have had a second job many times in my life and I am taking a new one just now. I will start next week. THe reason of course is not because I enjoy not having some times to rest, but the bills and all that need to be paid even when we are not making enough money to pay them all. I have worked as much as as another 7 hours in second - and third - jobs every day. Other times only a few hours a week. This one will be about 2/3 hours per day and some of it I might be able to do at home. I am not too happy for having to do it, but it needs to be done:)

I am also thinking of getting a second job... since i have flexible time in the office... and my baby is now 2 years old... i feel it is time for me to go out there and earn more... so that i can try to end the financial difficulties i am faced with... aside for that... the current increase in the cost of living is creating a strain in my family life... I just hope that by next month i will be able to find a part time job...

I'm always looking for ways to make extra money after I get off work, both online and off line. I can't really take a second job as I never know for sure when I'm getting off work. Might be early or late. I manage to make extra money almost every week now online. I'm thinking about building some picnic tables, dog houses, and kids playhouses to try and sell as another income besides my job and online earnings. Things are getting tough with the price of food and gas rising almost every day.

Right now I work one full time job. Four days a week, 12 hours a day. But I understand how you feel. With the rising cost of everything it is so hard to stay ahead, if not fall behind. And June 6 I need to go in for surgery. If all goes well I will only be out 2 weeks. They are planning to do an laparoscopy (small slit in the beelybutton). But if there are any problems they will have to cut me open. Then I will be out at least 6 weeks. When you are living pay check to pay check a few weeks off can kill you. I am trying to see if I can find something part time I can do from home. Something to bring in a little extra money when I'm working. And help so I won't fall to far behind while I'm out for surgery.

I have about 8 jobs. I won't list them all, they are mostly at home unless I am covering a story. Let me tell you I don't know when the last time that I had a decent sleep. Ainge

Well, I've never had a second job, but I now have 1 part-time paying job and 2 part-time non-paying - as in I do things for the roomie and my mom. I fit the paying job around the other 2 because I can, I just can't live with my retirement check alone.

Now blissfully retired we are so busy I don't know how I would ever make time for one, but most of my life I worked two jobs. The first year I taught elementary school, I guided the kiddies all day and went to work as a waitress nights. In fact that enraged one of the parents when he found out because it was a private school and he thought it unseemly that his the teacher of his child would do such a thing. Really, he made a big stink about it. Of course that is the same kind of guy who, scarcely a generation before made a big stink about women doing any kind of gainful work...the right to "work" was very hard earned and then after earning the right, we still had to do the work and still for a fraction of the pay that men who did the same work got. Yes, it was worth it. That is why I don't have to work now!

I've never worked two jobs. If I was felt that I was getting low on money, I would just do somethings online to make some money like blogging and article writing. I now am able to work at home full time, by doing those things along with the money making program I found. If you'd like more info, visit my website listed in my profile.

I am doing this as way to earn extra money, outside of my regular job. I work 40 to 44 hours a week. but I have also thought of starting my Party Light biz back up, as another way to earn money. Have to get my new used car 1st. So I can get to the shows. I have to agree with you , it is getting harder and harder to make those dollars stretch. Good luck on finding that part time job, I have a feeling we will be seeing more and more people doing that very thing, just to get by.
