I'm wondering if any of you have ever given "A Million Little Pieces" to someone you know as a gift? I have given a few copies of this book and James Frey's other book "My Friend Leonard" to people as gifts. Some of whom who I felt needed guidance from alcohol and drug issues, some of them who I just knew liked to read and would like this book.

Sorry to tell you but that book "A Million Little Pieces turned out to be a big scam. He made most of it up. He was interviewed on the Oprah show, someone saw it and exposed him. He returned to the show and Oprah chewed him our.
I guess it's still a good book, just not non-fiction.
I have given the book Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren though. That's a good book to give anyone.

I was already aware that it turned out to not be an entirely true story. It doesn't change the fact that I love this book. It is well written despite the fact that it actually should have been categorized as fiction. Did you read this one? I guess so since you said you still guess it's a good book.

I have never given it to someone but lent it to about 3 people to read. I loved it! I also read My Friend Leonard, which I thoroughly enjoyed and his newer book Bright Shiny Morning which was also very good. I saw the Oprah show where she "brow beat" James Frey and was not impressed with Oprah. Memoir or fiction, I still loved the book and really, really like Frey's literary style. Obviously Oprah's opinion did not stop me from reading more of this awesome author.
