Trying to grow my first set of herbs indoors. What herbs grow best

I love eating cilantro and my cilantro from Food Lion, lasted about two days, before it started to get gross. How hard is it to keep up herbs in the kitchen? I would like to eat the cilantro a few times a week. How many would i need to plant?
