I'm an addict to this sauce. I use it with almost anything I eat. How about you?

Hi Jemina. I don't usually use soy sauce with kalamansi. But when there's Fried Tilapia or Bangus or any kinds of fried fish, I sure love this sauce. .

Yea, salmon is really expensive. But you know what? For me nothing beats pinaksiw na galunggong. I like it ten times more than salmon. And if I put soy sauce and kalamansi on my rice I can eat one kilo.

This past week, we always have some fried fish. My mother-in-law even bought salmon bellies. But because it's too expensive (4 pieces of salmon bellies costs about almost P400!), we only had one piece each. She fried these bellies and it was oh-lala!Unfortunately, we ran out of kalamansi so we used Knorr seasoning instead.

How can I do that? Anyway, it's sour and salty basically but the blend of lemon with soy sauce is very favorable and makes my food tastes better.

My partner would be drooling right now if I shared this topic with her! lol. She could relate to this for sure! We have been away from the Philippines for about a year and a half or so now and there are a number of things she misses. Kalamansi, bagoong, balut, sugpo..... Most of all she misses patis and green manga! Me? I enjoy all of the above but don't really miss them the same as she does!

I am from somewhere else actually! lol. I am Australian/English, and my partner is Filipina. We are both currently in Egypt because my work brought me here after a year in India.... Prior to this I lived 18 months just outside of Manila.

Sorry, I got confused. I looked at the other discussions we had and I saw your response about staying in Manila. I just supposed that you were a Filipino because you know those foods very well in Tagalog. Advance, Australia then.

Oh my buddha! All this while I thought you're from somewhere else. Nice to know you're one of us. Well, my partner always buys Italian products while I buy Filipino brands most of the time. It's good I can get Philippine brands soy sauce in Asian shops around here.

I really don't like soy sauce. I never did like the smell of it. I have tasted it before when my husband used to fix deer jerky. My husband loves soy sauce and he eats it alot when he eats rice. I just never did acquire a taste for it though. I may like it if it was mixed with food and other seasonings though.

Well, I can relate with ya. I also had difficulty adjusting to new types of sauce but after years of constantly "seeing each other" I get used to them.

Isn't it great that we do have that here, probably the only place where you could find them both! I love them, I use them in every meals I prepare and eat. I use them as condiments, ingredients and as well as a dipping sauce..

Welcome to the club! Unfortunately, they dont have kalamansi here in the UK but they got that yellow lemon. As long as there is Silver Swan soy sauce. Well, Datu Puti, or Marca Piña will do.

Oh yeah it's yummy...not too sour, not too salty... I also add chopped onions to it...really yummy...try it. It's so good if you dip fried fish in it. Or steamed bangus, or inihaw na bangus...goodness me, so many delicious combinations!!

It's my number 1 choice of sauce also. I like soy sauce with calamansi and I add some chili and fried garlic. It make a simple fried dish tastes very good and yummy. Although sometimes I still crave for the calamansi and bagoong (fish sauce) which has been our sauce at home in the province when I was a kid.

Hello Fotknox, I have a strong feeling we were born in the same year. LOL! Anyway, your added spice on the sauce really does make it sound even more appealing now.

If you only knew how much I miss it, Chivolaski. I always long for it. Fortunately they sell Philippine brand soy sauce like Silver Swan and Datu Puti at the Asian shops here in Norwich. For calamansi I use other lemon fruits instead. At least it still make me feel like home.

Well, you can use some other lemon fruits like lime in place of kalamansi if it's not available locally. It's also not available here in the UK so I use other lemon fruits as long as it's sour like kalamansi.

I like it also much more with fried porkchop or fried chicken, fried bangus. I also love patis with kalamansi. I know, we are both Filipinos that is why we both love it.

You know when you get to another country and you don't get this you miss it so much. It's what we got used to and for me I can never exchange this favorite sauce with anything else they got here.

Me too. I am also addicted to that sauce. In my case, I want it to have more sour taste. So, what I usually do is add vinegar or more citrus juice to it. It's perfect with barbecue and other grilled meat.

Hmmm... more sour is tastier. Yes it's actually best for grilled, fried, and stirfried. I also put some in my noodles, porridge or any soup.

This is like a must in all Filipino homes during meal time... i use the combination especially when eatin fried food like chicken, fish, pork and beef... i put two calamansi to a 1/4 cup of soy sauce... and the taste is like heaven... and mind you... i prefer a certain brand of soy sauce... not kikoman... but the silver swan brand...
@Jemina (5770)

Yes, silver swan is the champion in taste. Laurette is also equally good but it's very rare. But Marca Piña is without the harmful mono sodium glutamate so it's actually healthier.

No I am not. I dont usually use sauce to any fried things I eat. We only use sauce when we cooked, but some of my family members uses the same sauce in eating dried or friend fish and meat.

hi jemina. i also use this sauce a lot too. most of the time i put either chili sauce or hot sauce. i have it with almost everything. grilled pork and grilled fish tastes just a bit bland without soy sauce and calamansi. anyway, try this sauce with a bit of vinegar. it will add a bit of a sting in your mouth but it'll be well worth it. thinking about it is making me hungry! happy eating!!!

I know how useful this sauce is. For me any food will taste superb if I have soy sauce with kalamansi. I just put it on my rice and that's it.
