Hi girls, I have a little problem I need help with and I would love any suggestions!
Whenever I shave, my lega always get realy bad. They get very irritated and red, and my razor doesn't even always shave my hair all the way. I don't know why this happens...it isn't my razor. I've tried disposable razors, I'm using a Venus razor now. Neither helped fix this problem. It happens even when I use a brand new razor-so it isn't because my blades are dull.
I have gotten a special lotion from my dermatoligist for this, that didn't help me. My mom gave me some kind of gel that was suppose to help, it didn't...
Does anyone know anything I can do to stop this from happening?? Any suggestions!
Thanks!

Make sure to keep your legs moisturized. Having dry skin makes it more likely that a razor will irritate your skin. Have you tried a good electric razor? I finally did. I had one years ago and I hated it. It pulled the hair and still irritated my legs.
About 6 years ago, I tried an electric razor again. It works like a charm. The hair does not grow back half as fast or half as prickly. I still have to keep lotion on my legs all the time because my skin is so dry. Even the electric razor irritates my skin if my skin is too dry. But I don't have razor burn and bumps anymore. If you get one, get one made for women and a good one. Cheap razors, whether blades or electric are the worst things for your skin (if you have sensitive skin).
Good luck!

I've been told by someone else to try and use an electric razor, but I wasn't sure what difference it could make. Do you have a specific electric razor or brand you would recommend I use?
Thanks! :)

Mine is a Remington, but I looked and I don't see the model that I have exactly. Mine is years old, though. I did see one like mine, it's model # is WDF-6000; it has gold hypoallergenic screens. It costs about $76 online at Remington, but you might could find it cheaper somewhere else. I think mine was $60 something when I got it at Walmart. It's worth every penny if you're having trouble with blades, though. Hope you can find one!

I would dispense with the razor all together and use Nair or some product that you can simply wipe off instead of having to use a razor. I don't have to shave my legs, I never have, so I'm no expert, but I hope you find something that helps.

I've tried Nair before and it didnt work. It left almost all my hair behind. Do you have any product that has worked for you?

And Veet worked for you? Is that the brand that gives you that razor looking thing that lets your scrape the foam off (I think it's plastic or something).

Yes I've tried nair too. And another product like that, don't remember the name. But it wasn't veet. Those don't work for me either.
if I was allergic to the metal wouldn't it make my legs really really bad? What happens to me doens't seem like it's bad enough to be an allergic reaction, unless those can be really mild

Okay, make room for the doctor lol.
So, if you're having this problem, you first need to stop shaving for at least one week. After that, you need to see if it is still getting red and showing the same symtoms. If you are getting the same reactions without shaving, then it is not shaving that is the problem, but something else, which could be any number of things (allergies, rashes, etc.) usually nothing serious. seccond of all, you need to stay consistant with what your dermatologist gave you. I would suggest shaving once a week until your problem is solved, but if you must ,I would say shave at a maximum of thee times per week.
I really woudl have to make an apptmnt with you to give more advice, but that's usually how all 6 of my patients with that problem cured thier legs (major rashes)

I have waxed before and I am a wimp when it comes to it. lol. I hated waxing, although I did it a few times, because it really did hurt a lot for me =P And it didn't always pull out all the hair. Nothing really seems to work for me! lol. I wish I could laser them, but can't afford that right now!

I always cut myself when shaving my legs. Years ago I purchased an Epilady. I don't even know if they still exist. It vibrates a spring-type thing on the end which yanks out a bunch of hairs at the roots. It hurt! And it never got the tiny little hairs, which I took a tweezer to.
Now, since I really can't stand pain (I have enough of it in other health-related issues) I started tweezing. Pulling one at a time doesnt' hurt much at all. Sure, it takes time, but over time, some of the hairs never grew back. Each hair shaft grows 2 hairs. When one is getting ready to fall out on it's own, the other begins to grow. If you get that second hair when it's very small, that hair shaft will never grow hair again.
I now have virtually hairless legs. I love it! I still look them over occasionally and find a hair or two growing, so, pluck! They're gone.
I know this sounds kinda silly, and even a bit nuts to some, but it works. No irritation, no cuts, no nicks.
Oh, when I first started tweezing my legs, I would shave them if I had something special to do or go to. When the hairs started growing back, I'd just start tweezing again. Over time, no more hairs!
Give it a try. It couldn't hurt!

I actually did try teezing my legs a while ago. But, like you said, it was really time consuming and I didn't feel like wasting a bunch of my time doing it lol.
But what you're saying is I should just pluck a little bit at a time, then shave whenever I have to, and the hair will just stop growing? Because that would be terrific!!! =D lol.

Yes! It's really amazing. I'm so happy that I no longer have to shave at all, well, except for the backs of the top of my legs, because I really haven't gotten there yet. I'd say that at least 25% of the hairs you pluck don't grow back... ever. It's almost like electrolysis, but a WHOLE lot cheaper! Good luck!

I have no idea, but if anyone can tell me how to shave without looking like the victim of a car accident I'd sure like to know.

I thought at first you might be pressing too hard on the razor. You only need to scrape it very lightly and gently especially a new razor. Also, I've found lanoline is fabulous for shaving rash. It's not expensive but it's getting harder to find. It's an old fashioned cream and lovely to use.
I also used Nair and Veet with sad results...practically no hair removal. What I can't understand is how even the use of the razor does not cut the hair. Are your hairs very coarse? Perhaps if you consult someone in a beauty parlour. I know they try to sell you a product or a treatment but you have to keep trying to find a solution. Good luck.![](/Content/images/emotes/happy.gif)

Yes, I have tried Nair, and I think some other kind of hair removal cream like that. But they didn't work for me. They actually really sucked, left most of the hair behind...x.x

Are you making sure that you always wet your legs with warm water and then apply a good shave gel before shaveing??? And that you are putting a good moistureizing lotion on your legs afterward??? If you are not doing these things that that is probably why you legs are getting so sore. If you are already doing these things then I don't know, maybe you are lacking a vitamin that you skin needs or something.

Yes I always shave while I am in the shower; always use water and shaving gel. But they always get so irritated! This doesn't happen to my sister, and we use the same stuff (some products, not the same razors lol).

I have read some of the responses to your problem...I was going to suggest hair remover cream but you already said this does not work...For one thing you must have very sensitive skin..Go back to your doctor/dermatoligist and tell them the problem is not getting better..I wish I could offer you a new or better answer...Wishing you luck...I know that must hurt..:(

Like, oh my God!! you need to stop using razors completely. I used to use those and they used to irritate my skin. Well what you can do is use a hair remover cream. I use one called Nair. According to which one you buy it may give off a little sent when you use it. But it definitely works for me
