some religion like christian, islam, and others believe that their destination is heaven. as a christian, i'm told to believe in heaven and hell, and make any effort to be eligible for getting a place in heaven. but, since there is no proof about heaven's existence, how can i have any motivation to make any effort? well, anybody have any ideas about that? thx for sharing your opinion.

Religious people will tell you to have faith. However, as an atheist, I'd say just live out your life to the fullest and spread joy around you. Don't waste your time fearing the concept of a Hell or Heaven, do as you want. Am I advocating rape, murder, incest, etc.. Of course not. I'm just saying, live your life to the fullest. Don't worry about it. If any Heavens or Hells exist (because many religions have had the concept before Christianity), who cares? If you didn't do anything wrong, nothing to fear. Don't go wasting your time fearing a final judgment that has absolutely no evidence to back itself up.

that's good opinion. it's true that we should live our life to the fullest. heaven and hell shouldn't be our motivation to live properly in the world. thx for responding

I'm not working for a place in heaven, or the summerland, or nirvana, or any of the above. When I get there, I'll deal with that. I'm living this life here, on earth. I know that the better I treat people, the more understanding and tolerant I am, the more I am able to learn. I know it's easier and much more fulfilling when I am true to myself, and everyone else. I don't need a book or a reward, for being real. For caring about the place and the people I live with. You are here to live your life and be you. We're all unique, never again will our genes align in such a way to create a person that walks, talks, and thinks exactly like us. We are here to be ourselves and to work together. (TEAM-together everyone achieves more) We're here to live and enjoy, and learn here, in this life. Why worry about another place, that you don't have "proof" exists, then we can live the lives we were meant to..

JESUS, the mainstay of Christianity, promises one who would have faith that he has prepared a place in heaven for us if we would just follow his teachings. Your confusion is warranted because according to those who follow the anti-christ all one needs to do to get to heaven is to believe in the ressurection of Jesus. The difference may seem of little concern but is in fact the reason why so many people imsgine Christians as wishy-washy. They don't follow the Lords teachings! For yourself, will Jesus know you by just your actions or just your faith? Make sure its by your actions along with your faith.

Yeah of course you can be sure that heaven exists, its quoted in the first chapter of genesis, the first verse that God created the heavens and then the Earth. And then about his making of life on the earth. But sure the bible makes no notice that God created something called hell and it would be a place for immoral mankind to suffer. And no, i dont think when we die we go to heaven or earth, coz God said, Man is made of dust and he returns to dust, and so i believe in that...

in the end its all about FAITH..you have to believe all beliefs on faith and faith alone...study-read-prayer-devotions--this is the way...you can argue pro or con but it all comes back to FAITH...everyone thinks the same thing in their hearts..but most people believe..."what am I to lose?" if there is no Hell or Heaven I am "hedging my bets" just in case? hey, i still buy lottery tickets in the US..why? it is math matically impossible..but..you never know? this is faith or stupidity? whats a dollar for a dream? BUT docotor will tell you that people who have some belief system tend to be more positive and live longer and have more serenity...but what do I know? I am Lutheran and I married a Catholic women but neither of us go to our churhes but we still pray.. as you believe you shall receive..methinks

Hi sutanhartanto, Your question is a very good one, and it's true that no one can prove that there is a heaven or a hell. You must decide for yourself, not by reading some book or listening to another but by listening to your own thoughts. The motivation to live a good moral life should come from the kind of society that you want to see in the world. Give this some thought and look at the world around you. Life is meant to be happy, live it to the fullest, be fair to others because you want them to be fair to you. Respect the beliefs of others, but don't let fear rule your life as many do. Blessings.

thx for your nice comment you're right. that's why i ask about that. because to many religious people emphasize anything around good and bad, virtue and sin, heaven and hell, and use heaven or hell as the main motivation to do what they're doing now. thx for responding

LOL , I do have the same question sometimes about heaven and hell. I think it's just an idea, to scare people away and do good and nice. That will making me questioning ;... people do good because "expecting" a price called heaven? where is the sincerer heart go? God already love us the way we are without expecting anything, He just loves us. Why we can't do the same? why we barging with God? "Hei God! if i do nice, you must let me in to the gate of the heaven! " ... that sounds silly. ... isn't it?

In the Baha'i scriptures Baha'u'llah teaches us that hell and heaven are not actual physical places but rather spiritual states. When we are on earth we can experience mini-versions of each when we either turn from God or turn to God. However, in the afterlife these experiences are much more extreme as our soul is no longer connected to our body. Many people do not believe in God because they think that if God existed they would be able to feel God's love. However Baha'u'llah says that to feel God's love we must first love God and open our heart to God in the following passage:"O Son of Man, I love thy creation. Hence, I created thee. Wherefore, do thou love Me, that I may name thy name and fill thy soul with the Spirit of Life." The little bit of heaven I experience whenever I say one of the prayers God has blessed us with through Baha'u'llah or when I strive to serve God in my every day life by sharing His beautiful words with others and the hell I experience when I turn from God and become selfish, motivate me to strive to serve God in anyway I can. I believe people have similar experiences in other religions, including christianity.

I have read that heaven is more of an abstract concept then an actually location. It is the concept of a blissful after life. The few religions I know about have very little description of this place, save Asatru (Norse re-constructionist paganism), just as little as they have about hell. My personal conclusion on the matter is that no one can really say for sure. Some tell me that is what faith is all about, trusting the intangible :)

thx my friend for responding . i agree that heaven they refer to is a state, not a place. well, if trusting the intangible is what faith is all about, it's like we have to speculate our destination.

If there was really a "heaven" imagine how Boring it would become after a few hundred Centuries? But there is No Heaven! Life here on Earth is so interesting and exciting we can hardly wait to get back to it. Reincarnation is a Fact (Its been proven many times over) after we die we change Dimensions for a time, before we choose new parents and come back into this world as a Newborn. We never have to do anything! We get to choose, life style, siblings, parents, location, and whatever else! Life is what we make it!
