Is Obama Jumping from the Frying Pan into the Fire?

Pastor Moss - Obama's New Pastor
United States

I have resigned myself to the fact that Obamamania has swept the country and nothing will change what they think. However I find the "new" pastors biblical interpretation to be unbelievable. What do you think? Replacement Obama Pastor Just As Controversial As Wright Barack Obama has finally distanced himself from Rev. Jeremiah Wright after a 20-year relationship, but the pastor who is replacing Wright at Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ is likely to be just as controversial. New Trinity pastor Otis Moss has called Biblical patriarch Abraham a “pimp” and made other statements many would consider offensive. After Obama called Wright’s comments “divisive and destructive,” a questioner noted that Rev. Moss has defended Wright and asked if Obama would continue attending the church. “Well, the new pastor, the young pastor, Reverend Otis Moss, is a wonderful young pastor,” Obama responded. “And as I said, I still very much value the Trinity community.” Moss, the 37-year-old “hip-hop pastor,” as he’s called by congregants, will become head of Trinity in June, after serving as an assistant pastor there for two years. But a videotape of a sermon he delivered at Wright’s church shows this “wonderful young pastor” referring to “ghetto prophets” and “thug theology,” calling the late rapper Tupac Shakur a “prophet,” and reciting at length lyrics to Shakur’s song “Thugz Mansion.” Moss also states in the sermon: “Jesus has a soft spot for thugs.” “God is always using thugs to do God’s work.” “Everyone has a little bit of thug in them.” Noah was a “thug” who “was drinking much gin and juice and got drunk on the eve of reconstruction.” Abraham “pimped his own wife.” Jacob was a “hustler” who “stole his own brother’s birthright.” Moses was a “thug” and “if he got mad would give you a royal beatdown.” Sampson was a “thug” and a “player.” David was a “thug,” a “shot caller,” and a “player,” and a man after God’s own heart. “Jesus is on the cross being lynched between two thugs. The moment of execution, the moment of murder, Jesus, the son of God, is hanging out with thugs.” In an interview last month with National Public Radio, Moss refused to distance himself from claims by Wright that the U.S. government was involved in distributing illegal drugs to minorities. http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/Replacement_Obama_Pastor_/2008/05/07/94285.html?s=al&promo_code=4A90-1

I do not care about stuff like that. I just wish we had a president who was not religious for once, even though I know that will probably never happen. That would be refreshing to me!

Whatever happened to the separation of church and state? Maybe we should get back to that. I think it was one of the smarter moves of those guys who drew up the constitution in Philadelphia back in 1789.

there is no such thing as separation of church and state. it is found NOWHERE in the constitution. it is an ideal, but not directly stated in the documents that formed our country..... anyhow, I wouldn't trust barrack as far as I could throw him - he will do nothing but harm to this country if he gets into office. As for those preachers: they will have to answer to God and him alone for leading so many people into falsehoods.

I just dont see how these "pastors" can feel they are doing their congregation, their country & indeed the wider world a positive service, by making inflammatory comments. Some of their statements may be correct. It is how they are preaching this, that inflames people. The language we use is very important. Just what do they hope to gain from this? More members for their congregation? Race riots? I strongly suspect that both of these pastors have an ulterior motive. I can see from our news service that Obama is on a roll to win.

If these examples you've given are true it sounds like this pastor is translating stories from the Bible into language some of the younger members of his church can understand. Seriously, I couldn't care less about Obama's new pastor or his old pastor, I'm worried about the issues facing the country that really matter and that affect people like you and me! At least for this one no one can say he's sat there and listened to him for decades. Annie

Very clever. That is one thing that Obama can say. I am so disgusted with the whole democratic bullcrap that after many years as a democrat the republicans (McCain) are looking a lot safer. It is my firm belief that Obama and his friends have a very dangerous hidden agenda for this country. Now all my ancestors can stop turning in their graves as they have always been staunch republicans (British Conservative party).

I'm really much more concerned with Iraq, the economy, gas and food prices, and a hoard of other issues. What does Moss have to do with this Presidential race? I don't think Obama has even been to mass since Moss has taken over and Moss has nothing to do with the campaign so I really see this is just another attempt of diversion from the issues, where Obama is much stronger than McCain. And while I can't say this story is false as I know very little about Moss. I know Newmax was the source that lied about Obama being at mass when he was actually in Florida so you don't have a very credible source at all. I have found an article that puts Moss into perspective from a very conservative newspaper in Chicago, the Tribune. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-moss_bd17feb17,0,6761518.story?page=1
