Tomorrow is my Anniversary, but I'm divorced. Does that still count?

Tomorrow would be my 12th anniversay. But, we divorced a few years ago. I say it's still my anniversay. When I tell my mother Happy Anniversay on the day she got married, she gets upset and says it's not her anniversary because my father has passed away. I tell her it's still her anniversary and she should be happy for the years she had, 58 of them. I did stop telling her this year.

Ican agree with you in consideration to your moms anniversary she should still celebrate it to a degree in honor of your father. As far as you yes I can understand your reason for celebrating but to be quite honest for me I wouldent really be able to celebrate something that over time fell appart.

I don't really celebrate my "anniversary". I just like to mention it to bug everyone else. Maybe I'm celebrating that I'm not still married.

It's still their anniversary....it's sad that he's gone but if she is trying to move on in her life...I understand... It's still an anniversary of a big day in your life..

That's what I thought. She's 84 and they had 58 happy years according to her. I thought she'd like to remember them fondly.

In my opinion,it is still an anniversary but maybe not one she would like to remember anymore .Not all anniversaries are happy ones. For some it brings the pain and anguish from the past to the forefront.I know some people who say "this would have been" so to show they realize the importance of the date but are comfortable at least with talking about it.

She talks about my father all the time, so I know she's over that part. She just doesn't like the anniversary part.
