Most shy people warm up to once they feel comfortable and accepted. On occassion you might run into a shy person or two that actually have a lot of problems and low self-esteem too.

Well I can be shy around people I don't know, because I'm not comfortable doing small talk (it's not my strongest point) and because I don't see the point of babbling away to strangers. If there is a special connection, then I'm liable to keep on talking for ages, but otherwise not.
Furthermore, I loathe people who are constantly talking, talking loudly or a combination of the two. I've come accross too many people who aren't shy and therefore rude. Because they like to talk, they won't mind cutting someone else who's trying to say something and I think that's incredibly rude. I refuse to do something like that, so I'm careful about when I want to talk.
