Gardeners! Anyone know about grapevines?

I have two questions. I bought two grapevines and one seems to be a dud. Anything I should try before giving up on it. It's not budding at all.. is there such thing as 'late bloomers'? Also, I have this mysterious stick like thing in the middle of my strawberry patch (we recently bought a house so I'm just now figuring out what I have growing from previous owner's landscaping efforts!). This stick recently began buddin and shooting out leaves... could it be a grapevine as well? How would I know?

..the stick in the garden sounds like it could very well be a grape vine.. You may want to move it.. unless you want to make it a permanent spot for spreading grapes.. I love grapevines.. I transplant them for shade and for making nooks and crannies.. With the dud.. I don't know.. maybe water it for a bit, and see what happens? Good luck and happiness in your new place!
