Do you have to read to the end of the chapter?

When you're reading a book, do you force yourself to finish the chapter before putting it down and going to sleep? Or can you just pause anywhere and stick your bookmark in?
For me it depends on how tired I am. If I'm really tired I'll just shove the book mark in anywhere but if I'm not that tired i"ll force myself to finish the chapter!
What do you do?

Me being me, I love to read. I'd read it anyway, and if I got tired, I'd place a bookmark and finish it when I woke up. I don't like to use the word force, it's just such a horrible word to me. I say if you can't finish, then finish reading later. Especially if the story in the book is good.

You have a good point there. I think a bit of OCD comes into it when people decided to finish a certain amount of words!

I do always read until the end of the chapter. The hard part is not to start the next one when the book is a really good one.

I know exactly what you mean! No matter how tired I am the promise of a fresh new chapter is just too much and i always end up reading the first page before I force myself to put it down and gfo to sleep!

I usually prefer to finish the chapter, but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way. I think a lot of it depends on where I'm reading and how long the chapters are, honestly. If I don't have much time to read, I'll cram in whatever I can get, and if the chapters are really long, I don't worry about where I'm stopping. :)

well i usually stop wherever i am. i read anywhere and everywhere so it's not quite possible to always finish a chapter. i read on the public commute and stop when i need to get off. i also read before bed and will stop when i'm feeling sleepy. i can easily pick up from where i stopped previously so it's not a big issue for me. cheers ;p

A little bit of both. Sometimes I force a stop in the middle of a chapter, because it's a really good chapter and I want to make sure I have a solid block of time to enjoy the rest of it.
Othertimes, I hang in until the end of the chapter, even if I can't stand reading one more word. I want that chapter to be over next time I pick up the book!

I always stop in a good spot. It all depends on the author, I have read books where the chapters are just a page or two. With them, I do stop at the end of a chapter. but there are authors that have written long chapters. But with these authors they sometimes have a little break within a chapter. If they do, I try to stop there. If not, I stop where the top of the page stara a new paragraph.

I normally read until I am so exhausted I only have a chance to change my bookmark to the right page cos if I stop reading at the end of a chapter I still may not be able to sleep and instead toss and turn! It is not unknown for me to fall asleep still reading and the noise of my book falling to the floor waking me up! lol xxx

Hi coffeeshot! I do try to read and finish the chapter even if I am so sleepy, sometimes when it is really the last chapter of the book I am reading, I just can't really put it down..but if I am so tired and sleepy..I do just read the ending or the last two pages, then just read it again the following day. haha..
Take Care and Happy Mylotting!

Well, it depends on how interesting the book is. Sometimes, I do finish it so that i will start a new chapter the next day. Sometimes, I insert the bookmark or just memorize the page then go to sleep.

If I'm reading in bed then most of the time I just fall asleep with the book in my hand and wake up to discover that it's fallen down and I've lost my place and can't remember what I was reading about anyway!!
However, if I'm not in bed then I do prefer to reach the end of a chapter before I stop. It just seems to be a natural stopping place.

I hate stopping in the middle of a chapter. It really bugs me to no end. So, if I can read until the end of a chapter before I have to put the book down, then I will. I like starting new. A chapter is like a new beginning so stopping in the middle of the chapter annoys me because it's like I'm losing time.

Generally I finish the whole book, not just a chapter, but no, I would never just shove the bookmark in anywhere. I must at least finish the chapter. That does not take long, however, as I read really fast. Hubby is equally bright, but he is a slow methodical reader, and does not go to the end of anything. He has squillions (lol) of half-read books lying around. But he hardly ever reads fiction. All his books are heavy.

It depends on how engrossed in the particular part of the book I am, if it is a really good chapter then I have to read to the end of it. But if it is a bit boring then I can quite easily leave it for another day. If I am really tired sometimes I have to put the book down because I will not read it properly.

There are times that I would really finish the book in one sitting if I really like it but sometimes, if the book is very thick and has many chapters, I would really read it every other day.
